56+ MONTHS Ship fitting experience in maritime environment 53 months manufacturing and refitting Navy vessels involving specific written procedure, traditional and modern techniques and blue-print reading individually and as a team member while maintaining required documentation of progress, status, and completion.
Journeyman trained and educated in various aspects/stages of ship manufacturing and repair under safety regulations within specific tolerances, procedure and instruction comprising material layout/ inventory, record keeping, fabrication, template creation, squaring and fairing of plates, structural and shell construction, unit erection and assembly, quality and accuracy inspection of structures and welds, repair/refit of new and damaged Navy vessels, leveling, etc.
Blueprint reading/design training, education, and experience involving written protocol, set standards, general/specific notes, welding processes and symbols, bulkhead erection, shell expansion drawings, panel construction(frames and stringers), part fabrication, sub-assembly, unit erection, and others which are involved in ship construction from start to completion involving thorough accuracy checks to mil-spec standard
Experience and knowledge of applicable tools including: Cutting torch, welding machines, plasma cutters, various electric/pneumatic grinders, circular and reciprocating saws, cranes, man lifts, come-a- long’s, chain falls, porta-powers, auto-levels, A.S.L.’s, bottle/screw/push-pull jacks, various drills, automated and computer assisted panel assembly lines, powerful magnets, and various fitting aids
Experience and familiarity with necessary hand tools: various squares, tape measures (metric and standard), plumbs, levels, protractors, chalk boxes, clamps, dividers, mauls and hammers, etc.
Experience burning ( cutting, washing, scribing, piercing, forging/shaping, preheating)
Experience and/or certifications in welding processes (SMAW,FCAW, GMAW, TMAW) in all positions with various metals (mild and high- tensile steel, stainless, copper-nickel, and aluminum)
OSHA Certified and experienced in safety protocols concerning working at heights involving safety harnesses, confined spaces which necessitate ventilation and lighting, and fire safety procedures for working around flammable, combustible, or sensitive materials in various environments
Worked on arduous and comprehensive refit/ repair of the USS Fitzgerald while coordinating with onboard Navy crew and staff
Experience on multiple classes of military ships ( DDG, LHA, LPD, and Coast Guard NSC) in shops, the field, dry and wet docks.
Able to navigate and locate compartments on a vessel, familiar with ship terminology
Experience and certifications working in hazardous conditions
