Projects

MATLAB Project -

Project - Supersonic Nozzle Flow Simulation using MacCormack Method

In this project, I was simulated the conditions for an inviscid flow inside a Subsonic-Supersonic Convergent-Divergent Isentropic Nozzle. I was performed a quasi-1D simulation using the FDM approach in MATLAB/Octave. The student will then investigate the conservation and non-conservation forms of the governing equations and learn their characteristics and applications.

1D supersonic nozzle flow using MacCormack Method

Implement Conservative and Non-Conservative form

Implement Courant Number based time step control

Solve Normalized Governing equations

Openfoam project :-

Project - Automated BlockMesh Generation for Meshing Pipe Geometry

In this project, I was simulated the laminar viscous flow through a regular pipe using symmetry and wedge boundary conditions and compare the simulation result with the analytical one obtained using the Hagen-Poiseuille formula. I was written a program to automate the generation of the Mesh file. The simulation was run in OpenFOAM and post-processed in Paraview.

Automate mesh generation process using MATLAB/Octave

Perform Wedge Vs. Symmetry BC study

Understand fully-developed flow and Hydro-dynamic entrance length

Compare the results with the analytical result from Hagen-Poiseuille formula

Ansys Fluent project :-

Project - Conjugate Heat Transfer Analysis on a Graphics Card

In this project, I was analysed the heat transfer coefficient and the high-temperature concentration zones through which effective cooling can be achieved. I was implemented local sizing methods to improve the meshing and to balance the cell count.

Concepts learnt:

The Importance of sharing the topology

Need for the Interface

Effective meshing

Volume rendering in CFD post

Project - Gear Sloshing Analysis through Dynamic Meshing

In this project, I was analysed the sloshing effect of different lubricants in the gearbox through a dynamic mesh approach. I was introduced to User-defined functions and its compiling procedure with ANSYS Fluent for providing motion to the gears. Also, I was gained knowledge of the various dynamic mesh settings like smoothing and re-meshing.

Concepts learnt:

Extracting the required 2D geometry from a complex component

Dynamic mesh settings

Methods to overcome floating point exception

Defining motion to gears by user-defined functions

IC engine simulation converge project :-

Project - Steady and Transient Flow over a Throttle Body

The objective here is to simulate flow past a throttle body under steady state and transient conditions. Your task is to study the effect of the valve dynamics on key flow quantities.

Project - Diesel Engine Characterization

In this project, I was run closed cycle simulations of the CAT3410 engine using two different piston bowls. I was looked at the effect of piston bowl shape on the final solution.

GT-Power project :-

Project - Case Study on AFT System : SI and CI Engines

Detailed AFT circuit system integrated with the engine model to accurately model the chemistry that captures the engine out emissions using a 3 way catalytic converter

Modelling DOC, DPF and SCR with Urea Injection strategy to meet the stringent Euro emission norms for commercial CI engines.

Project - BS IV - VI Conversion of an Eicher Pro Truck Variant

Complete Engine + Aftertreatment modelling for a BS IV variant HDT [Heavy duty truck] by employing suitable in cylinder strategies and AFT techniques to convert the same into a BS VI compliant variant.

Python & Cantera Project :-

Project - Adiabatic Flame Temperature Calculation

The adiabatic flame temperature for a given fuel-oxidizer combination is determined by finding the final state temperature (i.e. the adiabatic flame temperature) for which the sum of the enthalpies of the reactants equals the sum of the enthalpies of the products. The calculation of thermal efficiency becomes easy once we know the AFT. The efficiency further allows to improvise the reactor system.

Project - Combustion Efficiency Calculation after Preheating

A recuperator is a heat exchanger in which energy from the exhaust of hot combustion products, i.e flue gases, is transferred to the inlet air for increasing its temperature. The effect of such preheating of air can be seen in improving combustion efficiency as well as Adiabatic Flame Temperature. This analysis was performed to effectively utilized the exhaust gas recirculation and increase the efficiency of the reactor.

ANSA Project :-

Project - Modelling of an Automotive IP Trim Component

I had provided with an IP substrate component. I modeled the same by extracting mid surface and meshing the whole component by achieving all the mentioned quality criteria parameters.

Project - Modelling of an Automotive Suspension Assembly

I had provided with a suspension assembly of a car. I cleaned the geometry and checked for parts where the connections were established and also modeled the whole component while maintaining the quality criteria.
