Production Support
Liaison between production, management, & engineering in the unit erection process, in order to facilitate the timely resolution of issues, & to provide input into the planning process to avoid issues, rework, & delay.
Developed VLS lifting fixture to install modules in the building, which was thought to be impossible. Developed ideas, engineering, drawings, oversaw fabrication, and selling t the customer, testing, and implementation. Savings in cost avoidance, est. $100k per hull, and 1.5 weeks of schedule/production time.
Based on success of the VLS, used a similar concept to develop fixtures & processes for installing the Package Conveyor, PC, in the building. Savings in cost avoidance, est. $100k per hull, and 1.5 weeks of schedule/production time.
Developed installation fixture &process for DDG1000 propeller, without welded attachments to the hull. This saved significant man hours, & maintained launch schedule.
Developed fixture & installation plan for DDG1000 class shaft spacers, with extremely tight quarters, & tolerances, allowed easy & safe removal, saving time & rework hours.
VDM load out platform design & installation for DDG1000, reacted quickly to equipment failure, &allowed for activation to remain on schedule.
Developed jigs & fixtures to aid in fabrication, installation, & testing.
Testing & Evaluation
Worked with shipfitters, machine shop, & lab technicians to develop plan to qualify material used in lifting beams for cold weather service by performing Charpy testing of material. Saving schedule & money by qualifying existing material.
DDG51 Fueling at Sea Testing. Designed low impact, dead man, fixtures to avoid welded attachments to the hull for testing, for multiple testing locations, &stage of construction. Eliminating welded attachments saving hours &schedule.
DDG51 Replenishment at Sea Testing. Repurposed existing fixture, saving time & labor hours, enabling the test to be performed to schedule.
Developed Dynalink load cells, to replace existing links which were damaged from use.
Developed testing fixture for ladder rungs which improved efficacy and hull impact.
Rudders
Subject matter expert for rudders. DDG51 & DDG 1000 twisted rudders.
Developed design loading for DDG1000 rudder &rudder stock based on Navy DDS.
BIW representative to DDG51 composite twisted rudder project.
BIW representative in the DDG51 technology demonstration project, design, build, & testing. Provided direction to allow R&D program to be integrated into the ship.
COG engineer for DDG1000 Composite Twisted Rudder
Developed purchase specification for rudder.
Worked with buyers & vendors on the procurement of CTR.
Coordinated between DDG51 CTR program, DDG1000 program, & the customer.
Facilitated the transition between the composite to steel design upon failure of the DDG51 CTR program.
COG engineer DDG1000 Steel Twisted Rudder.
Oversaw a team of mechanics, designers, engineers, buyers, & management to develop the late breaking change to a steel twisted rudder.

************@*******.***
Developed drawings, & fixtures for the machining, blue fit test, & installation of rudder
&stocks.
COG engineer for DDG1000 Rudder Hub Casting Procurement
Developed purchase material & procurement specification for rudder.
Worked with vendor & customer to resolve metallurgy/quality issues with the rudder hub castings. Allowed the program to maintain schedule.
DDG1000 Rudder Stocks
Worked with customer to developed method to correlate legacy design requirements to the DDG1000 design, which was not supported by the legacy requirements.
DDG1002 Rudder/Stock Interface Damage
Rudder/stock interfaced damaged at installation. Resulting damage jeopardized launch of the ship due to schedule limitations.
Worked with Navy and production to validate damage did not affect performance, developed repair procedures to minimize the impact of the repair or performance, & updated procedures to reduce future risks.
SPMT Moves (Self Propelled Modular Transporter wheeled hydraulic transport)
Developed engineering processes for the design of SPMT transportation arrangements.
Developed SPMT arrangements for DDG51 & DDG1000 single unit, & Ultra unit arrangement. React rapidly to build plan change & reduce schedule loss. Largest move, approximately 4000 tons.
Developed SPM governing the operation of SPMT’s.
Diagnose issues with the SPMT system, & modify arrangements on the fly to support needs, reducing delays & allowing production to continue.
TTS Moves (Total Transport System rail mounted hydraulic transport)
Developed engineering processes for TTS arrangement design.
Developed SPM governing the operation of TTS system, & DOI’s for DDG51 & DDG1000 Launch.
Designed TTS arrangements for DDG1000 & DDG51 class single units, Ultra units, &full ship moves. Largest move, 15000 tons.
Designed transition rails for TTS trolleys into the dry dock to eliminate issues with previous transition rails.
Developed alignment criteria for the dry dock to allow for translation of ships into the dock to eliminate issues with the previous process & improve safety of launching ships.
Trouble shoot system hydraulic issues when they occur to maintain schedule.
Ship Support Plan
Developed FLT III Ship Support Plan from Scratch
Developed multiple iterations of ship support plan for DDG51 class Ultra 2000 & 3000, to suit changing build plans.
Updated DDG51 & DDG1000 ship support plans & wood blocking, to bring existing plans into compliance, improve safety, accuracy control, & efficiency, by reducing rework.
Developed quality guidelines, work instruction, & repair procedures to reduce unit movement, thus, reducing rework saving time & improving schedule.
Diagnosed accuracy control issues due to ship support blocking
Designed docking support& TTS transportation for barge for composite deckhouse delivery.
Unit Lifting & Handling (L&H)
Support safety investigations due to manufacturing issues which occurred.
Supported rolling Ultra unit which rolled uncontrollably. Provided a low impact solution to correct major production issue, saving significant schedule& cost.
Worked to create training program to develop new lifting & handling engineers.
Developed L&H & activity for children at Engineering Expo.
CIANBRO Sulfur Barge Lead Lifting &Handling Engineer
Developed most L&H arrangements for individual units, erection units, &Ultra units. Developed docking arrangement for the barge.
