seasonal contract Fast paced hospital affiliated Urgent Care serving pediatric to geriatric patients with low to moderate acuity conditions in town of 15K that swells significantly in summer and fall months.

Evaluate and manage low to moderately high acuity level ED patients in teaching hospital, averaging 180 visits per day. Patient population is economically diverse, multi-racial and draws from inner city Atlanta as well as the metro area. In this busy environment I independently see 15-20 patients per 12-hour shift, perform minor surgical procedures, interpret EKGs and X-rays. I also coordinate specialists’ consultations, hospital admissions and arrange outpatient follow-up. Preceptor to PA and NP students. Currently my focus is in the Observation Unit (CDU).

1999 – 2003 Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) Cotonou, Benin & Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Directed and administered comprehensive medical care to 120 Peace Corps Volunteers (PVCs) in Benin, West Africa (9/01-6/03), and to 160 PCVs in Uzbekistan, Central Asia (7/99-8/01). Served as Preceptor/Teacher to host country doctors. Traveled countrywide to volunteers’ sites to perform health and safety assessments of their living conditions. Conducted biannual pre-service health education for incoming groups of 25-60 people, emphasizing individual responsibility, specific local health issues and preventive measures, with focus on regional infectious diseases. Established and maintained professional networks with local medical professionals and facilities in the capitol and throughout the country. Coordinated medical evacuations and SOS transport for medical emergencies. Supervised medical inventory and ordering of supplies from the U.S. and overseas. Responsible for the day-to-day management of Peace Corps’ medical offices in Cotonou and earlier in Tashkent where I designed and opened a new medical office in July 2000. Initiated the Uzbekistan Peer Support Network, a support program for volunteers. In Benin, conducted small group seminars in the field on HIV/AIDS and other topics relevant to volunteers’ lives.

Within this highly respected family practice of four professionals, I served an ethnically and economically diverse community of 25,000, including local Chumash Indians and Hispanics in a bilingual capacity.

Worked as adult primary care practitioner for the departments of Community Medicine and Urgent Care in the county’s largest managed care facility. Independently managed patients with acute and chronic medical needs, focusing on health maintenance and preventive care.
