WORK HISTORY

Nuffield Health

Duty Manager

8/2019 – Present

I was fortunate enough to be offered this position internally with the same employer as they believed I was right for the role. I took on this role because I liked the challenge and knew I would learn a lot about consumer club management which is something I felt I was previously lacking.

As a Duty Manager, I am in charge of the smooth daily operation of the club meaning opening and closing procedures, till operation, membership sales, writing out daily reports on the clubs performance, handling member enquiries and even some maintenance work from time to time if need be. Most of my shift is spent either with customers dealing with a query, a membership sale/tour and just generally talking to customers making sure they have a good experience OR I can be behind the scenes making sure everything in the club is running smoothly like towel deliveries, monitoring shortages in first aid or cleaning kit or just replying to emails from any online requests.

This role also has a large operational aspect to it as I manage the stock count and orders. I also oversee any deliveries and have to constantly survey what stock is selling well and what isn’t in order to maximise profit. I am always assisting the cleaners with equipment and product orders, inputting hours and other personal admin to make sure my team is happy and up to date with everything.

My role often involves quite a bit of paperwork which can range from stock taking to membership admin and also has quite a lot of added responsibility as I am looking after the entire club including the pool and steam rooms which need regular checking for health and safety reasons.

We run a cystic fibrosis programme at the club which allows children with the condition to train with a personal trainer for free. I am the head coordinator of this programme at this specific club and have been for several months. I have the responsibility of making sure all the children are booked up, assigned to a trainer and have a safe visit without the chance of cross-contamination.

I take this role very seriously as I picked it up as an added responsibility to everything else I am doing. In addition to this, it is not in my job description but is very close to my heart and in a few short months I have managed to get us from 1 child on the programme to fully booked up and now we are recognised as the flagship club for this programme in the country and that is something I am extremely proud of.

So as you can see, this role keeps me on my feet and there is always some form of pressure when there is a whole club to run but that is what I love about my job. I spend the shift being pulled in many different directions to try and sort problems out, deal with any requests or just general leadership requirements that any team member may have.

Nuffield Health

Fitness and Wellbeing Advisor / Site Manager

10/2018 – 8/2019

After my break from the fitness industry I decided to make a return but with a different goal in mind and that was to go into management. This role was very hands on and has helped me gain a lot of managerial experience. Thankfully my manager had a lot of confidence in my ability and it showed with the responsibility I was given.

I completed a wide variety of managerial tasks such as; keeping the gym in running order and fixing any maintenance issues, banking the money we take in on a weekly basis and creating purchase orders and keeping class booking sheets accounted for. On top of these management tasks I also advised members on their exercise and nutrition, taught 8 classes a week every week and personal trained clients 1-1 as an add on when I could. There were times where my manager would be off and I would step up to look after 2 clubs temporarily while they were away. I also had the duty of training up several new members of staff to the standard that we were looking for. Luckily, I was given quite a lot of managerial duties early on which I really enjoyed and appreciated because it allowed me to really get stuck in and learn about club management. In addition to this, all fitness staff including myself were trained up to be health MOT qualified which means I am very experienced in conducting health tests relating to blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, BMI, hip/waist ratio, VO2 max and body composition testing. These tests were offered to members and I was conducting them on a daily basis which then lead to relaying the relevant information on how they can make positive changes based on results.

Wasing LTD

Construction Site Manager

06/2017 – 10/2018

I took some time away from fitness and started working as a manual labourer completing many different jobs from painting, carpentry, plumbing, and tiling to overall decorating and removals. The company I was with had a reputation for specialising in high end properties and clients above the £1m mark which led to immense pressure due to deadlines being met and at a high quality rate.

I worked closely with a team of 8 people and in a short amount of time, due to a lot of hard work, experience in working with a team and clear management skills, I worked my way up to Site Manager within 5 months. I then became in charge of a team of 8-12 people across 2-3 sites at a time all across London. This role entails managerial duties such as liaising with clients, quoting projects before work started, organising client budgets, fulfilling extremely large building material orders, and also making sure my team is happy and able to fulfil their duties for the day all while adhering to a budget and deadline.

Once a property has been completed, I then meet with the client and walk them through the finished product to ensure their satisfaction.

So in all, the role was to be presented with the work, deliver a quote and then deliver the work in a specific time slot and under a specific cost to the client and this was sometimes happening across 3 sites simultaneously so the pressure was sometimes very high but we always delivered with the highest standard of work.

Springhealth Leisure

Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer

12/2012 – 06/2017

I worked closely with my fitness team to educate and encourage members to try different methods of training which was conducted through safe and informative 1-1 sessions. I also took my own initiative to create exercise information and nutritional recipe posters which received excellent feedback.

I gained a lot of social skills when I gave advice to members who approached me with any questions and this allowed me to network well with customers and strengthen my communication skills over the years.

I then decided to start and operate my own freelance personal training business within the gym for 3 years which was extremely successful and allowed me to put more of my focus into managing my own business rather than shift work. This was vital as I was able to learn to manage my own time and finances and was able to gain experience in full responsibility of operating a freelance business.

Glassfield Ltd

Admin

06/2006 – 09/2009

While I was still in full-time education, I worked part-time in a hotel called Glendower Place as part of the admin team. I assisted the office by running errands for the facility, I handled all of the admin which included paperwork for the tenants and building maintenance team.

Once I gained some experience and was comfortable in the role, I then took on the operational side of the facility and was given a lot more responsibility. I became in charge of ordering and overseeing large stock deliveries, overall building maintenance, checking tenants in and out of the hotel as well as general day to day operation.

My Achievements

I am a competitive bodybuilder and currently trying to earn my pro-card with the IFBB in the classic division. I started this journey in 2015 and have competed in 10 shows to date all across the UK and Europe. I’ve earned a number of top 10 and top 5 national finishes including a win at the 2bros Pro show in June 2018 followed by a 2nd place finish at the UKBFF Sugar Classic in Nov 2018 which qualified me to represent the UK in Barcelona at the 2019 Arnold Classic. I did the show and made top 10 in Europe and now I have come home to chase the #1 spot in the country with the British finals coming up in October 2019.
