WORK EXPERIENCE

Ascension Health Care, Appleton, Wisconsin 2015 – 2020

Hospital and Healthcare Clinics that provide medical and clinical services to the public.

Technology Engineering Lead

Managed technical diagrams and coordinated server migrations on 5 Data Center consolidation projects between project managers and infrastructure staff. Performed bi-annual datacenter inspections and created Smartsheet automation tools for Project teams.

Created Visio Diagrams – This provided a quick overview of each datacenter’s equipment location without having to do a physical inspection to allow quick decisions to be made on migrations.

Performed virtual server migrations – Using VMware’s SRM tool, I created migration plans, ran test migrations, and performed production migrations of virtual guest servers between geographically separated datacenters. This allowed quick data migrations reducing the amount of downtime of the systems.

Developed, in house, automated project management tracking – Using Smartsheets I was able to create workflows for reporting progress of multiple projects. This allow the data gathering responses to take place by the actual staff members that worked on the equipment to respond without having the project managers to have lengthy phone calls to acquire this information.

Performed Bi-annual Datacenter Inspections – Doing physical walk through of remote datacenters kept quality at a high level by identifying potential issues before they happen. Inspecting racking and stacking, data wiring, power management, and hardware identification/labeling so any technician could have a standard to follow when performing work.

Systems Architect 2012 – 2015

Developed policies, system naming standards, and Visio diagrams to support Ministry data center projects to include: installations of HP blade chassis, EMC and HP storage area networks, and redundant power and network communication resources for the infrastructure hardware.

Created a technical layout for the CDW collocated datacenter – Using Visio Diagraming I kept an ongoing live technical layout of the collocated datacenter. This allowed me to design where future hardware would reside and which racks would be populated as we grew.

Performed Reviews of VMware hardware resources – I reviewed and checked the usage of VMware Hosts for each data center and found them to be underutilized by limited memory. Requiring new hardware for the CDW collocated datacenter I chose to use the money to upgrade the current hardware resources to save chassis space, power, and HVAC capacities for the datacenters. This directly saved over $360,000 in hardware project costs.

Created a waterfall hardware process – Hardware that was underutilized was identified, consolidated and relocated to provide hardware support where there was limited budget to meet the hospital/datacenter’s needs. This reduced annual hardware costs by over $100,000 and saved on server hardware warranty periods by eliminating the need to purchase hardware to sit in storage until needed.

Oshkosh Corporation, Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Manufacturing of defense vehicles, fire and rescue, cement trucks, lifts, and tow trucks.

Technical Manager 2006 – 2011

Managed 5 Technical Departments: Service Desk, Desktop Services, Systems, Storage, & Database Administration with up to 20, in house, direct reports and 5 vendor contractors.

Wrote Bi-annual personnel reviews – Writing bi-annual reviews for all in house departmental staff members allowed for a more controlled salary increase and would let the staff know how they were doing so they could make productive changes during their year.

Created Departmental Polices - Solely authored, reviewed, and audited departmental corporate polices and aided and approved policies for 7 additional business segments. This provided a consistent, global, work environment that all IT personnel could adjust to working at different branches in the company.

Implemented a companywide printer reduction program – Approved by the corporate CIO I was able to reduce the amount of available printers in the company, default the printers to black and white, print on two sides, and require a code to perform the printing so printing didn’t happen and got left on the printer, this saved over $30,000 a month in printing costs.

Systems Architect 2004 – 2006

Perform diverse project oversite to new technical projects. Provided quality oversite to 6 server/storage engineers.

Introduced the first ESX VMware Host Server – During an under budgeted project I was able to convince management that we should use VMware hypervisors to create a production environment. By doing that we saved $150,000 in hardware lifecycle changes and advancing server growth without the associated hardware and resource costs.

Installed the first IBM Blade System – To reduce power, data cabling, rack space, and cooling in the datacenter I championed a change in server hardware to blades.

Installed IBM SVC Storage Systems – By using an SVC (Storage Virtual Controller) I was able to upgraded and join disparate IBM SANs together. This directly aided in performing needed functional maintenance to the storage system during business hours with no end user impact.
