Ajax, ON,

L1Z 0K4 “Exceeding Expectations Every Time”

Attention: Chief Dave Lang, Ajax Fire and Emergency Services . I am passionately expressing my interest in applying for a probationary firefighter position with Ajax Fire and Emergency Services. I believe I would be a strong asset, valued and accepted member because I possess an exceptionally unique combination of training, skills, personal attributes and experience. I have an extraordinary level of experience in most aspects and areas of building construction. As a Master Electrician, I have worked in many diverse settings and roles in both union and non-union environments as a worker, Foreman, General Foreman, and have been self employed as well. As proud as I am of my many accomplishments in the electrical construction industry, my true passion and calling is the fire service. I am a firefighter with the Lincoln Fire Rescue Department as an on-call firefighter. Station #1 in Beamsville is a 5 apparatus station that receives about 600 calls per year and has no full time firefighters. The volume and diversity of emergencies we respond to has allowed me a greater opportunity for experience.

As a Lincoln firefighter, I’ve been afforded opportunities to serve and volunteer for many causes within my community such as food drives, raffles, firefighter for a day events and children’s camp days. I’ve also enjoyed volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, as coach for youth soccer, youth martial arts, and participating in fundraising events like The Run for the Cure. The sense of pride in my community involvement has taught me to better appreciate life and embrace our differences. The diversity of my fellow firefighters, and of the public, nurtures my appreciation for all walks of life. Learning about other cultures, careers, customs, cuisine, and religions is something I truly value and is also an integral part of customer service and inclusivity. Integrity and empathy are of the utmost importance to me as well as my very strong work ethic and moral compass.

Growing up in Pickering gives me a special connection to Ajax. My personal friends, their families, live and work in Ajax. I am extremely excited for a future in Ajax. I am an outgoing, very hard working and social person, accepted and respected by peers. I enjoy travelling, being active, involved and being part of a team as well as being a natural leader. I have life-long friendships, was raised in a big family and I am a father of two fun and bright children. I am passionate about the fire service and what it means within the community, the incredible honour it is to be a firefighter. I am eager to be accepted, to learn, serve, and represent The Ajax Fire and Emergency Services Department. Sincerely,

Marcel Van Amerongen
