James Madison University (JMU) – May, 2018

Technical Skills

Experience in SolidWorks Auto-CAD, MS Excel, MS Project, MS Word, MatLab, Mill, Lathe, LabView, C++, Geant4, LAMMPS, OpenFOAM, Docker, and Power Tools

Experience

Master’s Thesis Research, Cold X-Ray Effects on Satellite Solar Panels in Orbit, VCU (Jan – Dec 2019) Conducted research into the effects of Cold X-ray energy deposition caused by exo-atmospheric nuclear detonations onto the surface of solar cells in orbit

• Used Monte-Carlo simulations to gather energy deposition and power density data across a solar cell

• Used C++ coding to edit an open source particle capture simulation Geant4

• Used a molecular dynamics software, LAMMPS, to develop particle models of the solar cell after absorption of Cold X-rays

• Conducted all the research in a virtualized Ubuntu environment Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) internship (Summer 2017 and 2018) Summer 2018 – “Connected and Automated Vehicle Program” at VDOT

• Supported the creation of a hackathon for the smart roads project in VDOT to spread awareness of the project

• Contacted different schools and VDOT’s recruitment department to improve outreach and advertise the hackathon

• Conducted a research project on the successful Wyoming I-80 connected corridor to propose potential solutions and ideas for the Virginia I-81 connected corridor, which I presented to all my department heads

Summer 2017 – Environmental Sector of VDOT

• Conducted wetland surveys of potential work sites around the Fredericksburg VA area

• Filed wetland delineation reports as well as endangered species reports for future work sites

• Conducted hydrodynamic mapping of intersections for water runoff

• Learned about and practiced the authentication process of public work Senior Undergraduate Desalination Project, JMU (2016-2018)

• Led a team of fellow engineering students for two years in order to develop a small-scale desalination plant specifically designed for our stakeholder the Coral Island Preserve of Chumbe, off the coast Tanzania

• Worked with one of the staff members who was on site in Chumbe to receive specifications about their island’s needs in order to develop a solution that worked for them

• Worked with monetary and time constraints in order to design a product that would solve the problem of procuring clean water while still accommodating their needs such as cost and environmental safety

• Outcomes: Delivered a design report and analysis as well as recommendations for the construction of a desalination plant

Van Conversion Build (2019-2020)

This was a personal project to convert a van into an off-grid camper, and take a two month cross country road trip by myself where I would rock climb at many destinations, as well as visit many of my friends and family

• Researched vehicles based on needs as well as wants and compromised to find the best vehicle for the build that I wanted

• Converted the van on time and at the budget set in order to start the road trip on the intended date

• Planned and built the entire interior structure and functionality with minimal outside help

• Learned how to wire an electrical system and connected it to a solar panel to make it off grid

• Refined time management, financial planning, and hands on construction skills Publications
