Improve & increase product component performance & quality while significantly reducing cost. Specify & evaluate electronic components for motion control & sensing. Specify & evaluate related manufacturing methods for improvement of volume manufacturing and cost reduction.
Program Engineer
Hewlett-Packard Company, VCD, Vancouver, WA - Contractor
Assist in manufacturing and new product process development (NPI), for a high-end thermal ink-jet printer series. Give organizational guidance and drive implementation of process enabling programs to improve product qualification & development (such as improved defect & failure tracking, FMEA, uniform tooling use, uniform test procedure use & availability, ISO 9002 procedures compliance).
Sr. Mechanical/Sr. Manufacturing Engineer
Novellus Systems, Inc., Wilsonville, OR - Contractor
Oversee the manufacturability of the SABRE product for NPI. Make design changes to the systems and components of the machine to improve reliability, quality, function, manufacturability, and reduce cost and lead times. Design of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Work with SQE & suppliers to improve vendor lead times and quality. Direct & guide engineers & designers using ProEngineer & AutoCAD. Make rapid design upgrades and add functionality for changing industry needs and customer requirements as assigned by upper management and my own judgement. Analyze & troubleshoot mechanical & electrical systems designed by other engineers, trouble-shooting/ root cause analysis. Tool safety design/analysis. Provide technical support & guidance to junior engineers & designers (GD&T, machine design, design for manufacture). Ensure standards compliance with regulatory agencies. Design & implement functional system testing; test fixture design & specification; collect & evaluate data; make design recommendations. Write & initiate procedures for: design evaluation; systems assembly & setup; systems calibration; systems testing. R&D design which resulted in patents for my design of a new style of wafer chuck (United States Patents 6,537,416 & 6,967,174). Work with suppliers and original system design engineers to improve the product, a $1.5-3 million semiconductor production tool.
