Manufacturing Engineer with Global Integration Team (4 month contract)

oUnit Leader for new part Introduction. Operationally lead and taught a mid-size team: part construction, process improvement methodology, standard work, basic Managing Daily Improvement / Lean theory to include 5S, and auditing. Emphasis on safe handling of an electro sensitive circuits in a low-level clean room.

oAutomotive type projects involved: Small team management for tasks, cell design, quoting, capital expenditure, ergonomic assessments, task / time balancing, PFEP, and material packaging solutions.

Manufacturing Engineer II (Injection Molding, Cartridge Filters, and Systems assembly)

oInjection molding: Supported and sustained 36 injection molding machines, automation, and assembly.

oCartridge filters: Supported 16 reactionary molds and secondary fixtures. Systems Assembly: Designed and integrated product models from other departments to make them profitable and sustainable.

oLeadership and direction: Ensured fair but firm leadership of 52+ associates, technicians and team leads (supervisors). Provided leadership twice on interim basis over multiple quarters to ensure stability for new management. Actions included pay (Kronos), attendance, vacation, coaching, and positive morale. Lead, advised and taught principles for Managing Daily Improvement boards and leading metric implementation.

oImproved cycle time by 5% over 377 different parts including some validation. Sustained gains through procedures, standard operating procedures, and standard work. Allowed insourcing of new work twice. Material substitution and selection for structural integrity, Design Of Experiments, and revalidation.

oDesigned and implemented specialized fixtures, end of arm tooling, guarding and structural platforms for injection molding equipment. Reverse engineered equipment components for Maintenance.

oSub-committee work: Directed and oversaw specific safety related change management and work projects for multiple value streams. The implementation of projects earned the Sanford site the Carolina Star Award (NC OSHA).

oFacilitated and designed specialty tools and gaging for Quality, and other site departments.

SELECT PROJECTS

oInjection Molding – Mold change standard work introduction and change over SMED activities. Reduced 550 tonnage machines (and less) change overs to 1 hour. Larger press was 2.25 hours with 4 man team.

oInjection Molding – Created and Implemented a Total Production Maintenance program in two months that has sustained gains from 6% down time in 2016 to 2.5% down time in late 2018. Taught, coached, and sustained TPM and other Lean facets strategical to the value stream and the site. Positive OEE gains.

oInjection Molding – Drove savings of $101K+ including a reduction in lead cycle times effectively bringing productivity up from 82% to 85% during a 9-month period. Turned manual machines to full automatics.

oPleating Operations – Conducted design of experiments to reduce media scrap by 11% effectively realizing savings of $27K+. Root cause / machine troubleshooting saved the need to purchase a new machine.

oInjection Molding - Poka- Yoke project eliminated defects due to low spray levels for Pentair’s number one pump housing. Worked with technicians to capture programing changes permanently through backup files. Hard dollar savings of $32K annually.

oSystems assembly: Directed integration of manufacturing cells into existing value streams to include mix models. Return on investment of additional equipment and tools paid off in less than 6 months and added an additional 32% of earned revenue with cells. The secret was buy-in, ergonomic gains, SMED.

oOverhauled policies and procedures with cross functional team to win back confidence of a high value and very visual health care client. Actions of improvement focused on cultural changes, best practices, current good manufacturing practices, training, audits, documentation, and statistical analysis for packaging and In Vitro devices.

oInjection Molding -Packaging – Demonstrated how a dedicated roving auditor could drastically reduce failure costs and improve material costs. Plant scrap reduced from 6% to 2%, by using Pareto charts and common causality trends. Robust design shifted quality focus on eliminating defects per opportunity, having individuals check and verify quality on production startups. Hard saving over $230K annually.

oInjection Molding – Health Care – Regulatory work (under direction of Quality Manager) resulted in regaining customer confidence for new work totaling over $700K annually.

oInjection Molding – Packaging - Realized a $120K+ annual savings initiative through observing defective parts during initial validation and inspection. Reduced injection and cooling times by adding a double cooling conveyor. Return on Investment was 4 months.

oInjection Molding – Packaging - Team member of a completed project focused on variability with production. By charting and analyzing defect charts simple adjustments were made eliminate possible defects through cell and machine adjustments. Sharing best practices paid $56K annually.
