Research and Development Project (2018 – 2019)

Carried out research on modelling fatigue crack plasticity using the distributed dislocation technique. This was implemented using Wolfram Mathematica software. Selected Contributions:

Developed a code that models crack tip plasticity for simpler buried cracks as well as edge cracks. The results were interpreted using contour plots as well as displacements in order to observe and show the crack behaviour.

Produced a report outlying the key concepts and methods used in making the program modelling the crack behaviour. The report was made by doing research to get a comparison against current state of the art modelling techniques, such as Finite elements and boundary elements.

Caterpillar, Peterlee, UK

Project Manager (2016 – 2017)

Designed a system that can operate a 745C articulated dump truck with a 2km range regardless of the view. This was implemented within a budget of £20000. Selected Contributions:

Included live telemetry data in the controller to help guide the vehicle when not in plain sight.

Successfully found and implemented a suitable electrohydraulic steering valve for the operation of the truck steering. This was chosen by adopting techniques used in the industry such as the Pugh matrix, in order to evaluate and eliminate the other concepts from which it was compared against.
