GIS PROJECTS

Geology and Geophysics Faculty Research Points, Jan 2020 – March 2020, I completed this project while working for the Department of Geosciences. I created my own data points representing all geographic localities where Geology and Geophysics Faculty conducted research around the world.

Active Gold Mines in Nevada, Aug 2019 – Dec 2019, I collected my own active gold producing mines data in Excel and imported the data into ArcMap. I also retrieved some data from the ESRI ArcGIS server. I classified the mines based on their production rates for the past year with a graduated symbols classification. Other layers displayed in this project were a study area of Nevada, topographic basemaps, lakes and rivers within the study area in order to display potential acid mine drainage environments.

Buffalo Commons in the Central US, Aug 2018 – Dec 2018, With a $10 billion budget, I created a fenced area where buffalo could graze while paying owners of the parcels of land needed without going over budget. The buffalo were being used as a tourist attraction in the Midwest. I used ArcMap to study population density of each county, Indian reservation localities, sources of ground water, and grasslands in order to determine the best location for the buffalo commons.
