I am writing this letter to recommend Erin Diskin as a Physician Assistant for your practice. I first met Erin During her Internal Medicine rotation at the Lee Health hospital system in Fort Myers, Florida. Erin arrived early every day ready to work. Throughout my time with Erin, she has shown me that she is a hard-working, fast learning and diligent student and she would be an asset to have on your team. Although Erin had never worked in the hospital setting, she learned quickly how to navigate the hospital and communicate with all members of a patient's care team. She worked well with the other students, rounding on patients, and writing progress notes. She would arrive each day with a great attitude and was willing to stay late if we had a new admission or if a patient needed further explanation about their care plan during rounds.
Documentation is one of the most important skills to have as a midlevel provider. Erin's documentation skills are very impressive. She took thorough notes and addressed each issue on the patient's problem list. This is crucial so that other providers can clearly see the plan intended for a patient. In the hospital setting, providers are constantly reading through progress notes and the hospitalist is responsible for tying these plans together. Erin has shown that she is capable of thoroughly reviewing each progress note and synthesizing the information to document important changes to the patient's plan. Erin would also arrive early each day to look through every patient's chart for updates or to gather the history about a new admit. If I had questions about lab values or if the patient saw a specialist, Erin was able to answer those questions. Erin was able to explain which labs and tests she would order for a patient and the rationale behind ordering them and create treatment plans. Another skill that is necessary to practice medicine is observation. A hospitalist or midlevel provider needs to be able to notice details, whether it is remembering a nurse's name or observing a skin lesion on a patient. Erin would remember nurse's names and which patients they were taking care of from the previous days. She would also remember details about a patient such as what country they are from or their occupation. This shows me that Erin is very observant and that will be advantageous for ensuring continuity of care for patients as well as developing good rapport. I highly recommend Erin as a Physician Assistant. She has demonstrated great qualities that I believe will help her to succeed in any specialty she chooses. She is communicative and effective, while being concise yet detailed in her documentation. Erin is great at working on a team, and I believe that she will be an asset to any team she works with. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me at or via e-mail at
Regards,
Ivo Seni, M.D.
To Whom it May Concem:
I am writing this letter of recommendation for Erin Diskin as a Physician Assistant. Erin was my student during her general surgery rotation in St. Petersburg, Florida. She demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to learn and improve her clinical and surgical skills throughout the rotation. I have no doubt that Erin will be a great surgical Physician Assistant to any surgeon.
Although Erin did not have any surgical experience before her rotation, she quickly adapted to the operating room and scrubbed in to over 100 surgical cases. She also made an effort to get to know members of the OR and office staff. During operations, Erin offered her help wherever necessary including helping to set up the patient before the case and staying to help transport the patient after the case to PACU. She asked questions that were relevant to the surgical case which showed me that she is genuinely interested in this field. She was always enthusiastic about leaming a new skill during surgery or during office procedures. Additionally, some days Erin would scrub in with other surgeons in the group to broaden her experience in the rotation. This revealed to me that she is motivated to learn and explore. Outside of the operating room, Erin was present during clinic days and helped evaluate pre-op and post-op patients. She gained experience with presenting patient cases and considering the most likely differential diagnosis. She also learned how to manage post-operative complications such as wound infection and wound dehiscence. She was comfortable and compassionate during patient interactions and performing a focused physical exam. Erin gathered historical information quickly and effectively in order to include pertinent positives and pertinent negatives in her patient presentation.
I was impressed with Erin's ability to navigate the hospital system's EMR. She was able to look up radiology and lab results without difficulty and gather pertinent information for new consults or post-op patients. Before rounds each morning, Erin would look up every patient and take notes on important information, then present the cases during rounding. This showed me that Erin has a great work ethic.
In conclusion, Erin was a great student on her general surgery rotation, and I am sure that she will be an asset to any surgical team. She is a team player and patient advocate. If you have any questions or if you need any more information, please contact me by phone at
Sincerely,
Ke in H uet,M.D., MPH
