Background and Career Aspirations
Having competed my degree, I decided to embark on an international adventure. I taught English in Japan under the Japan Exchange Teaching Programme (JET). Initially I had planned to stay in Japan for a “gap year”. However due to various reasons (social, personal, state of SA economy) I extended my stay to five years. Living overseas has broadened my mind and contributed tremendously to my personal growth. I learnt a lot from the Japanese culture, and believe I have become a more well-rounded person through this rich experience.
I am now in a position where I would like to pursue my educational background in environmental sciences. I am particularly interested in human development, rural and urban development, environmental conservation, and environmental education. Furthermore, I am also passionate about teaching and passing on my skills and knowledge to the next generation. Ideally I would like to be in a position where I can combine my passion for the environment, development and educating.
