Responsible for training UPMC doctors, Pa’s, and fellows with the new voice recognition software called dragon. This new software converts speech to words anywhere a curser can be placed. Most of its use is in the UPMC patient information system called Epiccare. Doctors can also use this application in email, word, and excel documents to complete notes or messages. Through the aid of a microphone, this speech to text application has improved time management with regards to office time and ordering prescriptions. This new development helps documentation quicker and frees up the doctors time in the office so they can spend more time with patients. This process also eliminates the need for transcriptionists, which saves UPMC on transcription fee’s. The patient’s office visit information is also available immediately when they are leaving the office. Patient satisfaction is a key to success and with this new system we find patients are receiving faster service during an office visit.
