IT Governance, Risk & Compliance

Oversaw the IT Compliance function which includes Smithfield’s IT General Controls (ITGC) framework and control environment particularly as it pertains to Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) as well as other IT risk areas. Revised and standardized Smithfield’s Access Control, Change Control and IT Operations policies.

Familiarity with Risk Management Framework NIST 800-53 R4 control families and individual controls, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance.

Extensive knowledge and experience reviewing, mapping and assessing Service Organization Controls (SOC) reports (SOC 1 & SOC 2) and complementary user controls.

Provided requirements, guidance and oversight to IT Disaster Recovery planning and testing.

IT Service Management (ITSM) & Administrative Services

Supported the Global CIO to help transform the IT organization from a heavily outsourced asset driven IT organization to a more balanced business value focused services organization.

Helped drive Operational Excellence by leveraging Smithfield’s investment in ServiceNow for IT Service Management (ITSM) and improve coordination within IT and across its key partners with facilitated partner sessions to improve the Major Incident Management (MIM) process. Emphasis on Incident and Change Management while working to mature the Problem and Request Management processes.

Established standard Service Level Agreements and metrics for both Internally and Externally managed IT services.

Managed the Service Desk function which was outsourced to Logicalis with an emphasis on First Call Resolution, Shift Left and innovation using the Smithfield’s ServiceNow ITSM tool and instance.

Supported an environment consisting of over 12,000 knowledge workers spread across over 41 plants and office locations using SAP as the core ERP system along with other support systems such as Automated Data Collection, Warehouse Management, Supply Chain, Trade Promotion and other adjunct systems including Microsoft’s Office 365 cloud services.

Performed vendor and contract management across the enterprise including key IT partners and suppliers (e.g. Accenture, Cisco, Dell, Logicalis, Microsoft, Redwood, SAP, Secureworks, Syniti (BackOffice), Virtustream …) which included the IT procurement and vendor negotiation functions. Agreements ranged for perpetual licensing and subscriptions to services and Software as a Service contracts.

Responsible for enterprise wide IT Compliance, IT General Control (ITGC) framework and coordination of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) testing, remediation and reporting with Ernst & Young as the external auditor.

Direct oversight of the team responsible for SAP security role development in support of the OneSAP initiative as well as a greenfield implementation of SAP GRC Access Control for Access Risk Analysis (Segregation of Duty), Emergency Access Management (e.g. Firefighter) and Access Request (e.g. Access Management).

Worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to revamp Smithfield IT General Control (ITGC) framework and control environment to strengthen controls primarily within SAP and particularly around sensitive and administrative access.

In support Smithfield’s OneSAP initiative, provided contractual support of its greenfield implementation of a new SAP ecosystem based on using S/4 HANA ERP Central Component (ECC), Business Warehouse (BW) on HANA, Transportation Management (TM) on HANA and SAP Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC).

Established and managed agreements with key vendors such as Accenture for System Integration and Application Outsourcing, Virtustream for Private Cloud Hosting, SAP for Integration Services, Licensing & MaxAttention, Microsoft for Azure Cloud services and dozens of other agreements for the niche contracted services and suppliers needed to support Smithfield’s OneSAP initiative.

Assisted the Smithfield Packing Operating Company and Smithfield Foods, Inc. with the outsourcing of its IT organization to Capgemini which included implementing a new instance of SAP based on the Farmland Foods Operating Company business processes and IT operating model.

Led the effort to send out an RFP, negotiate and select a single supplier to take on full responsibility for Infrastructure Management Services (IMS) and Application Management Services (AMS) for Smithfield’s three primary Operating Companies as well at Corporate. An incumbent outsourcer, Fujitsu, was selected over Capgemini also an incumbent, Hewlett Packard and IBM.

Assisted with transitioning from Capgemini’s fully managed IT services to Fujitsu’s fully managed IT services and managed the Fujitsu agreement and relationship going forward.
