MTN South Africa is part of MTN Group, a multi-national telecommunications that boasts over 152 million subscribers across its company with operations in 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East.

The company provides voice, data and telemetry offerings and solutions to its 20 million customers in South Africa. Also, over time a great deal of attention has been paid to ensuring that appropriate products and services are marketed to well-targeted customer categories. In addition, MTN is now able to offer existing clients the opportunity to holistically expand and upgrade their existing voice and data infrastructures.

The Wholesale MNP Phase III project is aimed at closing the gaps identified in the existing MNP processes. The current system is merged with the retail system and neither is operating efficiently and sometimes not even correctly. So this project covers only the Wholesale portion of the porting processes. It covers these entirely. That is to say, for porting in, out, reversing both, returning numbers to blocks, receiving returned numbers, reconciling with the CRDB and providing routing information.

The majority of the changes are expected to be in the middleware area, with application systems only changing where there is either a lack of functionality or expected functionality does not work.

Roles & Responsibilities:

My work in this project primarily revolves around the fusion side of code. Everything from designing the architecture for the various flows, the interaction patterns etc to the development of the composites is my responsibility.

This involves all the steps from the initial impact analysis, choosing the mode of the interaction between applications for each use case, penning the technical design document and the actual coding effort. Multiple types of flows including those following the synchronous request-reply model, to those that have a fire-and-forget model have been implemented. There are flows that are used for data synchronization which are initiated by means of a db polling mechanism. Within these composites, many technologies such as the Oracle Mediator, BPEL, DVM’s, XPath, XSLT and JAVA are present.

Interaction with client for requirement gathering and analysis, involved in design of interfaces for connecting Provisioning and Billing pertaining to new connection orders, Creation of Synchronous/Asynchronous BPEL Process based on the DDR, Orchestration Services, integrating the BPEL Service,Designed OWSM Polices for Authentication and Authorization for Accessing web Services. Implementing SOAP Faults and Business Faults Based upon Requirement. Harvesting artifacts into Oracle enterprise repository from IDE's like JDeveloper, Coordinating the partners and send them updates on new developments, Implemented best practices such as Error Handling, File Archiving, Developed BPEL process that contains Exceptions Handling to capture the remote and binding faults, Involved in Deployment of the Approved Design.

I am also in charge of training and aiding the rest of the engineers on the Fusion side of coding. This involves giving sessions to the team on the various aspects of SOA application and information on the capabilities and usage of all SOA components.
