• Family Medicine – 12 weeks total. 8 weeks in a traditional family medicine clinic at Bee Caves Family Practice in Austin, TX and 4 weeks at an underserved clinic in Fort Worth, TX. o Built rapport with patients and medically managed chronic ailments including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypothyroidism and obesity.

o Diagnosed and medically managed acute complaints including viral and bacterial pharyngitis, bronchitis, influenza, allergic rhinitis, urinary tract infections, and rashes. o Assisted in minor procedures including incision and drainage of small abscesses. o Educated and counseled patients on the importance of preventative health screenings. o Used translators to communicate with Spanish speaking patients.

• Internal Medicine- 4 weeks of outpatient at Medical Partners of Dallas and 4 weeks of inpatient at the Dallas Veterans Affairs.

o Diagnosed and medically managed hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypothyroidism. o Had the unique experience of working with the veteran population of Dallas and managed diseases including alcohol dependence, congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, pneumonia, medical complications of metastatic cancer, and kidney failure.

• Emergency Medicine- 4 weeks at Harris Hospital, a level 2 trauma center in Fort Worth, TX. o Assisted in managing patients following major traumatic injuries including motor vehicle accidents, stab wounds, and head injuries.

o Assisted in diagnosing and managing patients with life threating diseases including myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolisms, and cerebral vascular accidents. o Performed many medical procedures including suturing wounds, incision and drainage of abscesses, intubations, assisting in placing central lines, and removal of foreign objects from eyes.

• General Surgery- 4 weeks at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Mansfield, TX. o Assisted in cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and hernia repair procedures using minimally invasive laparoscopic and Da-Vinci robot techniques. o Sutured the surgical incisions at the end of each surgery. o Assisted in colonoscopy procedures as well as educated patients at their pre-procedural visit. o Educated and prepared patients regarding non-emergent cholecystectomies and hernia repairs at their preoperational visit.

o Assisted in clinical procedures such as cyst and lipoma removals. o Helped provide education for patients on bariatric surgery procedures.

• Pediatrics- 4 weeks at First Step Pediatrics in Cleburne, TX. o Treated patients from newborn up to 18 years old. o Diagnosed and treated otitis media, otitis externa, streptococcal pharyngitis, rashes, and upper respiratory infections.

o Become familiar working with pediatric patients who had autism, ADHD, anxiety and depression.

• Psychiatry- 4 weeks at John Peter Smith county hospital in Fort Worth, TX. 2 weeks were spent in the psychiatric emergency room and 2 weeks were spent in a psychiatric inpatient unit. o Became proficient at conducting mental status examinations. o Diagnosed and developed treatment plans for patients with substance abuse disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, suicidal ideation and/or recent suicide attempt.

o Communicated with patients’ families regarding patients’ histories as well as treatment plans. o Spent time counseling patients on the importance of seeking help when feeling suicidal and adhering to treatment plans.

• Obstetrics and Gynecology- 4 weeks at John Peter Smith Hospital o Became proficient at conducting a well woman examination as well as routine obstetric examinations.

o Had the opportunity to do many pelvic exams with pap smears, determine the fetal heart rate using Doppler, and measure the fundal height on pregnant patients. o Worked multiple days in the labor and delivery unit, assisting in vaginal and Cesarean deliveries. o Had the unique opportunity to work with a breast surgeon for a few days. She saw predominantly breast cancer patients. I conducted history and physical exams on the new patients and evaluated the recovery of the post-operative patients as well.

• Neurology and Neurophysiology- 4 weeks at The Center for Neurology and Neurophysiology in Frisco, TX.

o Became proficient in the neurological examination and using screening tools like MoCA to assess for cognitive impairment.

o Diagnosed and developed treatment plans for chronic migraines. o Assisted in injecting Botox for migraine prophylaxis. o Learned the basics of interpreting EEGs.

o Observed lumbar punctures, nerve conduction studies, and EMGs.
