OBJECTIVE
To obtain a position with an established corporation with a growing momentum in order to best utilize my extensive management, automotive accounting and computer knowledge to aid in coordinating dealership operations with all departments and assure accurate data for management decisions.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Secretary-Treasurer, Business Manager, and Controller since 1987 performing all duties of the chief financial officer and general manager of the dealership including all factory financial reporting with more than 4 consecutive years of transmitting the final financial statement to Factory no later than the 3rd working day of the month most of that time, on the 2nd, all Ford Dealer Development financial reporting and management reports for dealers and other managers. I have supervised offices with twenty employees and as small as two. I attended a two-day seminar reviewing MVD procedures and regulations for the State of New Mexico. I enjoy keeping updated with new rules and regulations prescribed by the factory, government, and other partners regarding taxes, human resources, “Red Flags”, Privacy Act, and more by watching webinars and attending seminars as they are available.
Planning budgets and forecasting for the dealership productivity and profitability is very much one of my assets. Working with the dealer, I provide departmental managers with the information and guidelines for their upcoming month’s or year’s budget and forecast. By taking last month’s figures and outcomes, we can together discover what we did best, and what we should watch more closely for the upcoming month. I like to have at least 2 meetings each month with each manager in order to accomplish this. Each manager would be provided with a workable, readable daily operating control (doc) each day, enabling both of us to be able to handle problems now rather than after the month is over.
Being involved actively with building three new dealerships, and various remodels I have experience and knowledge that will aid any growing dealer. Purchasing and managing installation for six computer systems has been quite challenging and invigorating, converting each of these systems from an existing “other brand” of computer system.
Having worked with Ford Motor Company, Dealer Development from 1988 to 2009, I have gained experience and knowledge. During this time, I have also worked with many multi-franchise dealerships, I am familiar with Ford, Lincoln-Mercury, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Buick, BMW, Chrysler-Plymouth, Toyota, Mazda, Acura, Honda, and Subaru factory requirements and procedures. I have an extensive working knowledge of every facet of dealership operations and management.
Having worked closely with Ford Dealer Development auditors, and as an internal auditor for Sonic Automotive, I have acquired an extensive knowledge of internal controls and internal auditing, enjoying both functions greatly. In knowing the inner workings of a store, internal auditing enables me to provide information for both management and owners to facilitate better, more efficient, more productive management with better profits for the entire store.
At Price Ford Lincoln Mercury, Sulphur Springs, Texas, I was acting General Manager, handling all facilities, personnel, advertising, Federal and State compliance to include OSHA and Consumer Credit licensing as well as managing all financial reporting and accounting responsibilities. While at Bayway Lincoln Mercury, I purchased a Used Car modular building, making decisions as to size, location & placement, utilities, bonds and permits, colors and design myself. Purchasing and designing telephone systems for three dealerships is another of my accomplishments.
The Corley organization in Grants was one of my favorite positions. I was controller for the Chevrolet store and Carolyn Corley when it opened. Organized and established the accounting system (Reynolds) for the new store. I had a staff of three office employees. During this time, I assisted the dealer, Faye Corley, in improving the training for her controller in the Chrysler store. Working closely with Ed Corley, Sr. was another branch to my own training, and I learned so much from him. The main thing I learned was that family makes the team and the team becomes family. At the time, they had eight stores.
From November 16, 2015 until December 20, 2016, at Legacy Motors, Clovis, NM, I was the controller, billing clerk, accounts payable/receivable, inventory clerk, wholesale title clerk, file clerk, and anything else that needed to be done in my “one girl office”. One other woman did running. I set up the Arkona/Dealer Track computer system and began keeping books on it immediately. It has been a challenge that I enjoyed, and I hated, but it brought me back to my roots here in Clovis. I was called back to Clovis, NM by my elderly, ill mother who passed away in April 2016. Being an only child, I was tasked with closing her estate. Questions can be asked and answered in person. Legacy Motors closed December 31, 2017 and was sold to the Bender Family Dealerships.
I was hired December 20, 2017 (until April 25, 2019) as Bender’s controller over three stores, 1) Bender GM: Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac, 2) Bender Honda, Nissan, 3) Bender Dealer Group: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram. I worked with the three Bender brothers, one, a CPA, one Director of Sales and the third Director of Service and Parts each for all three stores. Review, audit, internal control, compliance issues, health insurance administration, covering for absent employees, and whatever needs attention are my assignments.
Enabling other’s energies to be devoted to generating revenue instead of guarding it, I enjoy facilitating projects, and ensuring that the data is beneficial, timely and accurate; that the systems and internal controls and procedures are in place to enable the dealership to operate at its highest efficiency. I have approximately 30 years’ experience in automotive accounting and management. Previously, I have held many positions in the dealership; to include Secretary-Treasurer, controller, Assistant Controller, Systems Administrator on UCS, Reynolds & Reynolds, and Arkona/Dealer Track, Bookkeeper, A/P, A/R, title clerk, car deal biller, warranty clerk and parts secretary. I have participated in many parts and vehicle physical inventories. I love working with the software and building reports and management tools that are truly useful to the dealership. I firmly believe that whoever is doing a job needs the appropriate information with which to do it effectively; therefore, the computer should work for me, not me for the computer. Hence, I have made it a point to understand as much about the software as I possibly can on every system with which I have worked.
COMPUTER
I am very adept at changing to different software systems with ease. I enjoy the chain of learning new systems, processes and procedures and the learning becomes fun.
Microsoft Office – extensive training, many day seminars and webinars and in dealership experience with downloads from Reynolds & Reynolds, ADP, and Arkona/Dealer Track for manipulating data into usable,
Arkona System by Dealer Track – seven years’ experience (2009-2013, 2015-2017, 2018)
ADP Computer System – over five years in various dealerships. Designed informative management reports for the dealers. In my opinion, ADP is easier to build reports than other programs.
Reynolds & Reynolds –ERA Ignite and ERA Access, (2018) ERA III and ERA II, Vim III and Vim II Management – more than twenty years’ experience, utilizing ERA III with Contact Management, Electronic Document Management, Accounting, and all other “standard” modules. Have attended assorted classes in accounting, vehicle management systems, service invoicing, parts invoicing and inventory.
Universal Computer Systems - Management Accounting I, II, III
Quick Books – At Roswell Ford, I used QuickBooks for 3 to 4 years keeping books for the dealership owner’s tanning salon. As full charge bookkeeper, including all accounting functions and payroll. I was responsible for all NM State and Federal reports required.
ADP, Reynolds & Reynolds, UCS, and DealerTrack are all proprietary programs for the automotive industry.
I am currently enrolled in an online course called “Using Office”. This is an update/refresher for me. I have started a Genealogical Society in conjunction with the Clovis Carver Public Library. This involves teaching others to use successful methodology that will help them to research their family history. I am a member of the El Portal Chapter of Daughters of the Revolutionary War and currently hold the office of Secretary. Also, I belong to the High Plains Historical Foundation, Clovis, NM, and currently hold the office of Treasurer. I graduated from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies, where I completed two of the 40 hour courses, receiving Certificate in Genealogical Studies, specializing in both American Records and English Records, with distinction, earning post-nomials of PLCGS, “Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies”. As the classes are updated, and new courses become available, I continue with the program.
