My name is Jim Orcherton and I’m a Certified Mechanical Engineering Technologist specializing in industrial and mechanical Design.

My previous employment is with Drillform Technical Services. At Drillform I was responsible for many aspects of the company including design of their various product lines, hydraulic wrenches, large catwalks for various sizes of pipe. I also managed the layout drawings and construction using AutoCAD and Solidworks and maintaining the databases used by the company. I developed various animations and VR simulations using Unity and various other tools including interfacing with various machines and interactions. You are able to run the entire suite of tools including catwalk, wrench and top drive with the HTC Vive controllers.

Some examples of my previous employment were with Onstream and Baker Hughes which I was responsible for many duties including, pipeline pig equipment design and drafting. Improvements in technical document management and drawing automation. Creation of professional animations for showing processes and products for the sales personnel using several different software packages.

At Tesco I was responsible for mechanical design, training material and internal website technical documentation of all of Tesco’s product lines including Casing Drives, Top Drives, and downhole tool equipment for their casing drilling lines, power catwalks and casing rig design. I also assisted in the modification of conventional rigs to make the rigs casing drillable.

I also have experience in FEA and simulation in Solidworks and Inventor and I have an Autodesk 3DS Max certification. My hobbies include 3D printing in which I have 2 printers at home. I also machine parts and I own my own mig welder and love to produce metal sculptures and castings. References are available upon request.
