Focus on quality systems implementation and management for (2) manufacturing facilities utilizing process driven systems.

Implementation of quality systems to monitor customer feedback systems such as warranty and specific customer complaints.

MANUFACTURING QUALITY MANAGER NOV 2008 – NOV 2011

Working with GM on CNG vehicle up-fits. This is provided as a turn key program where IMPCO is responsible for engineering through production following NFAP52 and NVG specifications for natural gas vehicle applications.

Transitioning the Sterling Heights facility for OE automotive applications and working towards TS16949 certification. This entails implementing TS16949 compliant processes and procedures, engineering tracking systems, and documentation geared towards the automotive industry.

Project Manager for design, procurement, and fabrication of an engine dress assembly line and hot test cells for propane powered engines. Responsible to maintain the project to budget and report regularly project status per the project timeline. Managed a similar project for installation at IMPCO Santa Ana, CA.

Promoted to Focus Factory Manager for all aspects of the $22M plant operations. Since 2003 Quality PPM improved from 1150 to 72, while delivery improved from 70% to 98% using metric driven discipline.

Responsible to operate the plant within prescribed budgets (P&L), quality, and delivery levels to our customers'.

Developed new job quotes using activity based costing techniques defining facility, labor, and capital requirements.

Coordinated with suppliers / customers to resolve issues via the corrective action process.

Established operations measures and internal audits focused around our ISO9000 and CARB/EPA requirements.

Developed, implemented, and certified a quality management system based on the ISO9001:2000 quality standard and existing company systems and procedures. During this process a supplier quality system was created with Purchasing with our facility in CA.

Assessed and provided all quality related functions, corrective actions, customer relations, and internal quality standards. Created detailed work instructions using photos and samples to allow us to drive customer PPM’s lower. Systemic corrective actions were put in place to drive the plant’s primary measures of quality, delivery, and financial performance. Drove engineering review involvement for new & current product to standardizes processes.

Quality Assurance Manager Oct 1999 – Sept 2001

Restored a cumbersome QS9000 system and re-establish quality customer relations. Eliminated wasteful paperwork and unused procedures by standardizing working instructions and incorporating visual boards, digital photos, and master samples which was more in tune with the plants’ 250+, 3-shift, multi-lingual work force. Developed and incorporated plant measureables that directly impacted quality, delivery, and downstream processes.

Worked with customer plants to define needed areas of improvement and implemented permanent corrective actions that resulted in a reduction of PPM’s by 50% with both GM (Tahoe & Escalade) and Daimler Chrysler (LH & Neon).

Trained department managers and supervisors to use systematic approaches (8-D & QOS) to achieve customer expectations through the use of data collection and root cause problem solving.

Coordinated with all plant departments to embrace the quality management system for the assembly of automotive color keyed exterior door handles. Use of Kaisen experiments to tune injection-molding parameters to produce a better part to paint, thus increasing paint yields from <85% to over 96% within a year. Lean manufacturing methods were employed, in conjunction with the quality focus, to yield nearly $5 million annual operating turnaround while increasing production to nearly 80,000 assemblies weekly.

Direct reports were 3 Quality Engineers, 3 Color inspectors, a Quality clerk, and 15 Quality Floor Technicians. As quality levels rose, the department evolved from product inspection to a system of process inspection.

Corporate Quality Engineer Mar 1998 – Oct 1999

Extensive coordination of multiple plants quality systems, procedures, and best practices for a unified system to be used in accordance with all 8 North American plants. These plants stamped a range of products from chassis cross-members, door hinges, and control arms to class A BIW exterior assemblies. These plants’ consisted of stamped and welded sub-assemblies in both union and non-union environments.

Organized successful internal tooling transfers, with our customers’ concurrence, of product between the manufacturing plants to match products with our plants’ strengths and support the overall corporation’s goals.

Wrote, implemented and trained the service parts plant personnel in to achieve their QS9000 certification. This involved extensive work with customers’ and the auditor since products were still being produced from documentation 40+ yrs old.

Developed and implemented a supplier rating and scoring system within the global purchasing group. This work summarized the plants data collection and summarized the information for Purchasing..

Quality Manager May 1992 – Mar 1998

Supervised of 5 salary and 22 hourly employees which included lab techs, quality engineers, a quality supervisor, and inspectors. Responded to customer complaints and formed problem solving teams for containment and permanent actions. Established annual strategic goals for quality as well as budget. The plant attained world-class PPM levels (<75) and 99+% On-Time delivery during my tenure and grew over 250% in sales dollars.

Prepared and presented plant wide management presentations to ITT management and customers with strategic and immediate planning for continuous improvement initiatives. Organized and prepared various customer quality audits (Pentastar, Mark of Excellence, Q1) and surveys for the automotive OEM’s. Developed and implemented QS9000 quality system from the plant’s existing system.

Implemented maintained the plant’s continuous improvement system (QOS) to drive the plant’s improvement goals. The plants’ processes included plastic tube extrusion, tube bending and assembly of vehicle fuel handling systems. Strategic planning included lean manufacturing, visual materials management systems (turns 35+), and data driven process improvement teams of our hourly staff allowed us to grow without compromise to quality and delivery metrics.
