Museum Educator, Knott House Museum, State of Florida
Maintain an ever-evolving knowledge of local, state, and national history to better serve our museum demographics. In doing so, I can create a fun and interactive environment wherein guests feel welcome to ask any questions, as well as establishing a safe environment for discussions.
Planned, researched, organized, and wrote the script for a November Veteran’s Program called “Voices from the Past: World War II Revisited.” For the Program, we worked in close conjuncture with the Institute on World War II and the Human Experience with Florida State University. The program ran twice on two separate days. The program for each showing brought in at least a dozen guests.
Created outlines for changing Thematic tours, including an Innovations Tour, a World War II tour, Temperance in Tallahassee tour, and researching local, state, and national knowledge and reactions for each thematic tour.
Coordinated with difference school groups – both primary and college – and gave tours focusing on each group’s specifications, from Innovations of the 1920’s to 19th century Southern Architecture.
Research projects for Museum Facebook page, along with taking videos and pictures to post to the Facebook page. Research ranging from Women’s’ sports to roller skating to Florida Airshows and a historic walking tour of the surrounding neighborhood.
Volunteered to judge History Fair at the state level for displays, websites, and papers for middle and high school students. The experience of judging History Fair and being a part of this has reminded me time and time again how utterly brilliant students of all ages are and instilled in me a love of teaching.
