At Driver Trett, I managed and personally delivered numerous commissions with many different clients. Primarily, I was:

(i) Supporting international Contractors and Specialist Trade Contractors in complex commercial and contractual matters, including airport tender preparation and mega-project contract reviews, and

(ii) Working with construction industry Experts, preparing and defending contractual claims in or for legal proceedings.

I recently supported SUEZ Groupe as their Contracts Management Team Leader for a bid to Design Build and Operate the new Integrated Waste Management Facility for Hong Kong - a mega-project requiring creation of an artificial island and associated roads, sea walls, berths, and breakwaters, then installing a state-of-the-art waste incineration plant, and operating it for 15 years.

Reporting to the Bid Director, I was responsible for negotiation and settlement of key Legal Agreements including the Consortium Agreement between the JV bid partners and a multi-million HK$ EPC Contract. In this role I was leading an international team providing contract, legal, technical and programme support.

2014 - 2016 : Permasteelisa (Hong Kong) Limited

Head of Projects, Greater China

Permasteelisa Group is a global building façades specialist. Based in Hong Kong, I was fully responsible for all of the company’s façade projects in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Permasteelisa provided building facades design, engineering, off-site manufacture, supply, installation and maintenance services across the Region.

Reporting directly to the CEO, I had full P&L and Project Delivery responsibility. All Project Directors, Project Managers, Regional General Managers (for project-related matters), the QS Manager, Contracts Manager and the Head of Special Projects & Maintenance reported directly to me. Projects included:

• West Kowloon High Speed Rail Terminus, Hong Kong

• M+ Museum of Cultural Arts, Hong Kong

• New World Tower, Hong Kong

• IFS, Suzhou, China (“Suzhou Supertower”)

• Tianjin 117 (117 storey tower, Tianjin, China)

Commercial Director

Multiforms LLC operated from Dubai, UAE, and provided building facades design, engineering, off-site manufacture, supply and installation services across the Middle East.

They worked in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain and had over 100,000 m2 of production facilities for architectural façades, steel, glass, aluminium and uPVC in Dubai and in Riyadh.

Reporting directly to the CEO, I was responsible for all commercial correspondence, estimating, quality of sales, contract review and negotiations, cost control, QS/commercial management and cash collection. Projects included:

• Muscat International Airport, Oman

• National Football Stadium, Jeddah, ‘King Abdullah Sports City’

• Al Baraka Banking Group HQ, Bahrain

Senior Commercial Manager (Complex Projects)

Legal and Commercial Leader for complex and high value bids of strategic importance in the UK and overseas, including the following successful bids and many others:

Central University Hospital PPP, Montreal, Quebec

A DBFO project to provide a new 21-storey hospital with 772 bedrooms and a new energy centre, including a 30-year maintenance concession (build cost alone being C$2.0 billion)

Responsible, with one other commercial manager, for:

§ compliance and quality of bid deliverables

§ guiding the construction JV through the bid process

§ directing and managing the legal team

§ security package

§ settling the risk allocation between bid partners

§ resolving commercial differences within the consortium

§ internal bid budget management, and

§ closing the deal.

Barking & Dagenham Social Housing PPP

The UK’s first 100% privately funded, 100% social housing development, delivering 477 high specification affordable housing units on two brown- field sites in London.

Low-cost funding from Hong Kong and a tax efficient contract structure allowed complete delivery with zero financial contribution from the Council, no grant funding and with no parallel private development required.

I was responsible for negotiating and closing this unique and very complex deal, which included securing sign-off for extensive off-site manufacture. Salford & Wigan BSF (Building Schools for the Future) A public-private partnership designed to deliver, maintain and operate 24 new and refurbished secondary schools – total capex £600 million – with project funding recovered through 25 year FM agreements. I was Legal and Commercial Bid Leader from start to finish, securing

‘preferred bidder’ status, managing the ‘competitive dialogue’ stage and delivering a successful Commercial then Financial Close. 1999 - 2007 : Schmidlin Group

Director and Management Board Member of this world class, globally respected building facades group with full legal and commercial responsibility including:

1997 - 1999 : Permasteelisa Pacific Private Limited Construction Manager – Singapore and Malaysia

During this period, the Permasteelisa Group was the largest architectural facades contractor in the world, driven by exceptional growth in South East Asia.

Reporting directly to the CEO, I was responsible for project delivery and commercial management of all projects in Singapore and Malaysia. These included:

§ Suntec City (5 towers)

§ Telekom Malaysia HQ (60 storeys)

§ PosBank HQ (60 storeys)

and numerous other prestigious projects.

I was also closely involved in Permasteelisa Pacific’s successful IPO. 1994 - 1997 : Wimpey Construction (Singapore) Limited Commercial Manager promoted to General Manager

Responsible - as Project Commercial Manager - for the commercial management and profitable delivery of a hugely complex, $100m, 37 storey retrofit project.

Promoted to Regional Commercial Manager, then to General Manager, I managed all of WCSL’s Singapore operations including two substantial joint ventures - in general contracting and petrochemical installations - and a HVAC sub-contracting business.

1987 - 1994 : Wimpey Construction Limited

Senior QS promoted to Senior Group Quantity Surveyor Responsible for the commercial management and profitable delivery of all of WCL’s projects in South West England including a 5 star hotel, two business parks, two large hospitals, and C&G’s new HQ. I was seconded to Al Futtaim Wimpey in Dubai, UAE and then to Wimpey Alawi in Muscat, Oman in 1993-4 to prepare Delay Claims on two large projects – the new Buraimi Hospital and the Oman International Bank HQ in Muscat.
