As the command's Public Affairs Officer/Corporate Communications representative served as the Senior Strategic Communications Advisor to leadership on policy decisions, courses of action and ramifications for internal and external communication. - Oversaw all arrangements with media involving command activities. Maintained effective relationships with the media, dealing with both positive and negative publicity of international, national, state and local importance. Developed and distributed command messages, crisis communications, speech writing and other management communications.

- Researched and wrote informative, compelling news stories as well as full-length features and cut-lines for public dissemination to international, national state and local media sources. Also, disseminated articles and photos on the portal for internal audiences; and the command’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages for worldwide audiences.

Deputy Public Affairs Officer / Editor in Chief (This was a federal job)

Assisted several military Public Affairs Officers as their deputy, served as the Senior Strategic Communications Advisor to leaderships on policies, programs and strategic communication planning initiatives to educate DoD and Navy leadership, Sailors and families, and the news media about Naval Information Forces' programs and activities. Provided Public Affairs Guidance and consultation to senior leadership as well as support to Joint and subordinate commands. Organized and coordinated print and broadcast media interviews with staff members, and served as acting command spokesperson.

- Coordinated command’s participation in annual community events with federal, state and local agencies. Events included Harbor Fest, Naval Air Station Oceana’s annual air show, Navy Night and Military Appreciation Night at Norfolk's Harbor Park, which hosts the Tides baseball team. Also scheduled field trips with area high schools and colleges to join with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education experts in Suffolk, Virginia as well as San Diego.

- Personally, created and designed 40-page ‘Public Affairs Handbook for Collateral Duty Public Affairs Officers’ which provided guidance, interpretation and clarification of the command’s vision and mission, strategic goals, and marketing plans. Handbook was available in hard copy and electronic versions.

- Successfully assisted Navy Recruiting Command in co-producing television commercials on the Navy's Cyber program which was televised on the Discovery Channel in 15, 30 and 60-second segments.

- As Editor in Chief for InfoDOMAIN, the command’s web-based quarterly publication, evaluated edited/rewrote article submissions and other written documents from component and subordinate commands, and other staff elements for suitability, clarity, style and compliance with OPSEC guidance and AP Stylebook.

- Responsible for independently planning, researching and writing informative, compelling news stories, full-length features and cut-lines for public dissemination – InfoDOMAIN and Navy.mil for public dissemination; the command’s portal for internal audiences; and Facebook Page for the general audience. Reviewed all media listed above, as well as arranging and updating the command’s internal television news channel.

- Assisted multiple Joint and Marine Corps commands with media accreditation, protocol, and control of media for multiple President of the United States visits, Distinguished Visitors, and VIPs both stateside and overseas.

- Notably served as primary strategist and key liaison for more than 70 print, radio and television media throughout the arrests and trial of three servicemen found guilty of raping 12-year-old Okinawa girl in September 1995. Directly managed hundreds of Japanese, American and international news media queries throughout the six-month trial.

- Coordinated "Welcome Marine" program between Okinawa commands and Prime Minister of Japan’s wife for demonstrating American servicemembers as good neighbors and citizens. The events were covered by U.S., Japanese and international print and electronic media. As the Military liaison ensured that all four branches of the military were represented.

- Planned, organized and participated in three annual ‘Friendship Day’ events. More than 60,000 Japanese nationals attended each event which opened the base to the surrounding public and culminated with a static display of military equipment and aircraft.

- Served as Senior Photojournalism Instructor for more than 150 Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and Foreign Service students in writing and photography skills necessary to complete 8-week course in Intermediate Photojournalism at the Defense Information School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN.

- As military advisor made daily contact with local print, and electronic media in selling the Marine Corps with radio and TV spots produced by the Marine Corps' advertising firm, J. Walter Thompson.
