Motivational letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am applying in the hopes of securing a permanent full-time job for 2021. I am currently employed by Business Partners (Pty) Ltd as a Graduate Intern (2 years). It is a great aspiration of mine to study via CIMA and eventually become a Management Accountant in business, specialising in finance/ investments and I strongly believe that this job will be the best fit to help me achieve my goal. I am applying for this role because it’s a job that interests me and I have the ability to excel in this job description.
I was employed for the past two years as a Graduate Intern at Business Partners
(Pty) Ltd in Cape Town. My daily duties involved client engagement (pre/ post- investment), marketing the company brand, working in an investment team, reviewing loan applications from SMME’s, engaging with the SMME environment, financial analysis and projections using Excel, analysing financial statements, risk, industry and marketing analysis, pricing negotiations, doing credit checks and credit reports, drawing up term sheets and loan schedules/ proposals, attending various operational and soft skills training sessions, using MSD Dynamics to manage applications and client accounts, basic SAP and SharePoint usage and writing investment reports for credit approval committees. My values consist of integrity, responsibility, diverse thinking, technical excellence and independence. I perform work with integrity, I am responsible, I can think outside the box, I have knowledge to share and I value my independence. I take pride in my work and fully commit to producing the best results I possibly can. In terms of social relations, I understand that it is integral to value honesty, trust and respect. Having a positive social life has brought this understanding to light. Living on my own has taught me how to balance aspects of my life, and through this, has shown me how to approach my work in a responsible manner. I have participated and done well in Olympiads during high school, showing me that I can think outside the box and that I enjoy problem solving. Furthermore, I have the ability to respond to problems with creative solutions. During high school and university, I became a proficient user of Sage Pastel Accounting Software and Microsoft Excel. Through my interest in Pastel I was able to do well for the Information Systems course and go on to be a tutor for the very same course. This proves that I have the ability to share knowledge with others. I also value my ability to swiftly adapt to change and embrace it due to my constant willingness to learn new things and expand my knowledge base.
I have been described as a diligent worker who never gives up and I am determined to succeed. I display excellent leadership skills which I gained by being a tutor at UCT in 2017 and 2018, as well as a mentor to first year commerce students in 2017. I strongly believe in giving back to the community and helping others and I was able to do this through mentoring and tutoring. I also gained strong interpersonal and communication skills while performing my role as a tutor, mentor and graduate intern. I am very organised; a team player and I have a passion for numbers. My academic results for Mathematics, finance, statistics and economics throughout high school, and university reflect my passion for numbers. My other various achievements throughout high school and university prove that I can do anything I set my mind to. For these reasons I believe that I will also be the perfect fit for this employment opportunity.
I have faced many challenges at UCT, one of them being when I failed two courses, Taxation and Corporate governance, but I overcame this by working hard and ensuring I pass to secure my degree. I have learnt how to cope with a stressful environment as well as how to manage a huge workload. My failures have made me a stronger person and I learn from my mistakes so that I can continue to grow as an individual.
Thank you for taking the time to review my application. I humbly ask for an opportunity to further represent myself in an interview. Please feel free to contact me via the contact details in my resume if you have any questions or queries. Kind regards
Genisha Mooniyen
