Drilling Engineer

• Drilling Optimization Engineering – As team lead, trained and supervised a team of four engineers. Developed standard operating procedures (SOP’s) for field operations. Implemented a driller’s road map for Anadarko in East Texas, by running downhole memory logging tools and analyzing post-run drilling data to reduce drilling days on the subject wells. Implemented an automated closed loop drilling system at the well site for Conoco Phillips in the Eagle Ford, by running EMS, a measurement while drilling (MWD) tool on wired drill pipe. Performed real time optimization by analyzing trends in the drilling activity, early event drilling dysfunction detection and first action response for drilling optimization. Improved bit performance, reduced ECD, improved bottom hole assembly (BHA) design, improved drilling efficiency, reduced NPT and significantly reduced Rig cost overhead. Drilling time on project #1 was cut by 47% at a savings of $426,000 to the customer. Drilling time on project #2 was cut by 32% at a savings of $352,000 to the customer.

• Well Intervention Analysis – Successfully supervised a directional wellbore cleanout project for Statoil in the North Sea by utilizing NOV CTES Cerberus software. The calculations of RIH & POOH wall contact force, axial force during tripping in/out, von-misses stress and overall friction reduction to prevent helical buckling, enabled the customer to decide between running a BHA with NOV CT Agitator tool versus a one without an agitator. Also performed the calculations to select the optimum configuration to provide the required pressure drop across the Agitator tool for the given application.

• New Product Development – Participated in the design, manufacturing, field trials and commercialization of a Coiled Tubing roller cone plug drill bit. The bit lasted for a greater number of drill outs compared to the competitor, providing customers with a cost-effective solution. Designed a power section for 12 ” vertical hole size for Occidental Petroleum, capable of handling additional differential pressure and generating more torque than the off-set. This enabled the drill bit to overcome reactive torque issues in Spreberry/Wolfcamp formations in the Permian.

• Quality Assurance / Quality Control Investigation – Performed numerous service quality incident (SQI) investigations for different downhole tools. The process involved collection of all requisite data, discussion of the root cause analysis and recommendations to prevent recurrence. The findings were presented to the customer as a technical evaluation report. Response time to achieve a satisfactory resolution was cut from 22 to 7 days.

• Drilling Performance Analysis – Performed multi-well drilling data analysis for Chesapeake in the Eagle ford, 8 ” hole size. Optimized power section selection for the downhole drilling motor on the subject wells. Drilling days were cut from fifteen to one and half with a one run curve-lateral on the last well of Pad #1, and from fourteen to four on the last well of Pad #2. This resulted in significant cost savings for the customer.

• Data Analytics – Designed and developed an interface in Spotfire, highlighting performance, operational and reliability indicators for quarterly review customer presentations. This enabled the customers to gage their performance for different power sections on a month to month and annual basis.

National Oilwell Varco, Houston – Texas 13/12/2010 – 05/06/2015 Drilling Engineer

Followed a 2 on/1 off roster to perform rig site (WITSML / WELLDATA RT) monitoring and optimization by implementing NOVA tools and automated drilling software applications (SoftSpeedII, TruDrill, Drill Shark) for directional drilling projects in various US shale plays. Performed off-set well analysis, T&D modelling, hydraulics calculations, critical speed analysis, BHA/drill string design recommendations to improve drilling performance on subject wells. Studied the trends in merged surface and downhole data from electronic data logging tools to analyze drilling dynamics/vibrations, understand drilling dysfunctions and generate drilling parameter roadmaps for drilling optimization. Performed rig site bit running operations for various NOV DH drill bit (Roller cone & PDC) product lines. Performed rock strength analysis to determine the confined compressive strength, abrasivity index and vibration index of the formation. Made PDC and RC bit selection based on off-set data, rock strength analysis & formation lithology characteristics. Conducted SQI incident investigations and root cause analysis for multiple bit runs to qualify the performance of the drill bit during drilling. Drilling Solutions Engineer – Well Intervention

Supervised various Coiled tubing & Fishing jobs to improve downhole performance. Ran Cerberus calculations in support of vibration mitigation tools to model drag, axial force at end, potential buckling scenarios and quantify friction reduction for CT jobs. Performed CT jar performance analysis in support of running CT jars. Performed engineering calculations for NOV CT agitators and motors to determine the application parameters for different CT jobs. Managed numerous CT plug drill out jobs at the well site. Conducted QA/QC Checks in support of SQI root cause analysis for different tools. PV Fluid Products, Houston – Texas 10/10/2016 – 30/06/2017 Drilling Applications Engineer – Downhole Drilling Motors Provided power section selection recommendations for performance and directional drilling projects to various directional drilling and operator companies in the Permian, Haynesville, Eagle Ford, Austin Chalk and other US shale plays. Conducted performance specification data analysis for drilling motor power sections with respect to different design considerations to increase, the torque output and operating differential pressure capability. Conducted drilling fluid and stator rubber compatibility test as part of service quality incident investigation to evaluate the cause(s) for power section failure during a drilling operation.
