VII.Work Experience
1.Yale University, GHLI, Deputy Project Director, Senior Technical Lead/Research Associate, Ethiopia (April 2014-Present)
At Yale University, My initial assignment in 2014 as a research associate position was for the HEPCAPS project, a project responsible for the medium-long term strategy development for Ethiopia’s Health Extension Platform (HEP). I later hold the responsibility of the senior technical lead position, since 2016, for the Primary Health Care Transformation Initiative (PTI) project, a project designed to transform the Primary Health care of Ethiopia. As of 2018, I worked as Deputy Project Director, for the PTI project. My major activities were to provide technical support to four Senior Regional Managers and 22 PHC Technical Advisors-Management Systems working in different regions of the country. I provide technical and operational leadership on key areas including the process of planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the PTI project. I actively participated in strategic guidance for Yale University Ethiopia office project directions and provided quality control on the overall PTI project data generation from 19 Zones, 318 woredas, and 1600 health facilities through the DHIS2 system. I actively engaged in building a strong partnership of the Yale University Ethiopia office with FMOH and regional health bureaus and other stakeholders. I played key roles in concept synthesis, proposal development, implementation, and monitoring of new projects.
In collaboration with Yale University researchers, I gave guidance and participated in research and operational study-related functions; such as identifying relevant operational research topics and coordinated the process of documenting evidence, monitoring, and evaluation activities. I made sure the effective planning and management of research activities associated with PTI/ previously HEPCAPS/, oversaw day-to-day research management of the program and related research initiatives; conducted, and supported the design of quantitative and qualitative data analysis. I managed the development and implementation of research tools for Yale GHLI fieldwork including key-informant interviews, focus groups, longitudinal field test tools, and other research activities. I also monitored research protocols and procedures, conducted literature reviews, data quality assurances, analysis, reporting, dissemination, manuscript writing, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
2.ARC, Senior Health Coordinator, Sudan (Sept 2013-March 2014)
The major activities as a senior Health coordinator are to provide the overall coordination and assistance in planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the ARC health program in South and East Darfur (based at Nyla). My specific activities at this position included building the capacity of ARC’s national reproductive and primary health care teams. Facilitate regular training for health team members and health personnel to strengthen their skills in service provision, staff management, and routine data collection and reporting. I ensured the availability and utilization of effective health systems of primary health care services and reproductive health programs for refugee set-ups.
3.WHO, Consultant (Jan 2013-Sept/2013)
I provided support to immunization against Poliomyelitis eradication and the reduction of morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases like Diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, yellow fever, and measles. I also provided technical support in accelerated activities to boost Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) Surveillance, including training and orientation of national and sub-national staff, implementation of facility-based active surveillance, as well as case investigation and follow-up of AFP cases. I actively engaged in monitoring the micro-planning and implementation of mopping-up immunization activities, using house-to-house vaccine delivery.
4.IMA World Health, Technical Director/ Team Leader (Jan 2011-Dec 2012)
I led the project with the overall purpose of assisting the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Republic of Southern Sudan (RSS) to strengthen the health system and further improve the delivery of healthcare services in fourteen counties of the state. As a Technical Director/Team Leader I was based at Bor (Jonglei) and Juba on different occasions. My major accomplishment in this position was to support counties, NGOs which IMA subcontracted, and IMA teams providing leadership guidance and provide technical and feedback on health program and operation supports. I directed all aspects of the Umbrella Program for Health Systems Development in the Jonglei state funded by the World Bank.
5.EngenderHealth Ethiopia, Team Leader (Aug 2008 – Dec 2010)
As a team leader for the Access for Better Reproductive Health Initiative (ABRI) project, I planned, organized, coordinated, and managed the overall project and operational activities of the Amhara regional project activities and ensured the proper implementation, and evaluated the result of accomplishment. I coordinated and managed the day to day project implementation and provided overall support, coaching, and guidance to program officers under my supervision and ensured proper implementation of project activities. I also coordinated community level Sub grantees/partners in demand creation activities and ensured the provision of community-based services and established strong referrals with supported facilities.
6.Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia, Head of Clinic and Community Based health service Delivery (CBD)-(2005-2008)
I worked as an SRH clinic Head and coordinator for community-based service delivery. My major activities included managing clients seeking the service of Family planning, VCT, MCH, gynecological problems, and medical treatment services. I was responsible for ensuring a quality maternal and child care service in the clinic which included; Antenatal care, immunization, PMTCT, PICT, STI management. I also facilitated and conducted different training on SRH for government health workers, staff, and community level volunteers; the training included comprehensive FP, safe motherhood, Infection prevention, STI management, VCT, PICT, PMTCT, OI Management, Permanent contraception, Quality of care, etc. Besides, I coordinated and supervised a project on the expansion of long-term and permanent FP services at the clinic and 14 government health facilities. I conducted multiple procedures and researched these FP methods as well.
7.Labella and Woldia Hospital, Medical Director and Department head (2003-2005)
As a medical doctor and the director of the hospital, my major duties were to examine and treat patients at the outpatient department and conducted close follow-ups for admitted patients with different acute and chronic illnesses. I also conducted clinical teaching for junior staff and students practicing at the hospital. After receiving additional training on comprehensive obstetric care, I conducted Cesarean sections for mothers with difficult labor as well as perform emergency laparotomies for mothers coming with emergency obstetric problems. As the medical director of the hospital, I coordinated, mentored, and evaluated both the clinical and administrative staff of the hospital

IX. Training
I am Trainer for the health system management training for Yale University; the Strategic Management Development Program(SMDP) and the Primary health care Management Development Program(PMDP) and provided this training for hundreds of health care managers and high-level policymakers. I am also one of few health system program trainers selected to provide Leadership Incubation Program(LIP) training for MOH trainees conducted by MOH in collaboration with the International Institute for Primar Health Care(IifPHC). I attended coaching training by internationally certified coaches and providing coaching to selected coaches. I underwent both in-country and out of the country PHC training and participated in the provision of training in multiple vertical programs; such as Family planning, HIV/AIDs, immunization, infection prevention, financial and logistic management.
