Professional Experience
Med Express Urgent Care Center 1/1/2019 to current
• Works independently
• Comfortable with caring for newborn to adult
• Proficient with procedures splinting, I&D, and suturing
• Scope of experience includes caring for acute and exacerbated chronic illness in both pediatric and adult populations. Insight to determine emergent vs urgent care. Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) 12/2011 to 12/2018 Director of Emergency Operations/APRN Clinician.
As advanced nurse practitioner working in the ED, I have established a skill set that includes complex suturing, splinting, and reduction of shoulder, hand, elbow and finger dislocations. Also, medical diagnose and management of STEMI, NSTEMI, dissecting aorta, fractures, cellulitis, diverticulitis, ischemic bowel, OM, OE, eye foreign bodies, soft tissue foreign bodies, nail plate lacerations, GI bleeds, anterior nose bleeds, pneumonia, upper respiratory infections, urology disorders, OB/GYN disorders, and pediatrics. Leadership experience includes director of operations for the emergency department, hospital preparedness coordinator, codirected the hiring and performance review of board-certified physicians, APRN’s and PA. As director, I provided accountability for planning, directing, leading and evaluating nursing care. Under my tenure, we have created through put systems that decreased door to clinician time from 20 minutes down to 10 minutes. Our “left without being seen” dropped 98%. Satisfaction scores gradually increased over two years and overall “n” size doubled during those two years. Our decision to admit to admit time dropped from mean time of 120” to 60” in less than one year’s time. We are now preparing to apply for the prestigious Lantern award.
Under my tenure the hospital emergency preparedness program grew to an active program which best prepares NVRH for disasters that may occur. Needs analysis led us to create a .5 full time equivalent preparedness coordinator. Participants at monthly meetings grew by 300%. We prove need to develop a mobile preparedness team of eight. We now send on average six employees annually to Anniston, Alabama to participate in capstone events, prepared by the Department of Homeland Security.
One of the most gratifying accomplishments is the development of our all board eligible or emergency certified physician staff and second provider program. After lengthy searching and hours worked, we now have a robust program that includes one emergency board certified APRN and PA. With the board certification, we were able to improve the specialized care delivered by PAs and APRNs. After successful lobbying APRNs and PAs are voting members at the medical executive level.
