Work Experience:
Black & Veatch Overland Park, KS
Mechanical Engineering Specialist I 12/2019 – 06/2020
Assigned to the Materials Application Section as a contingent employee with a focus in the area of Cathodic Protection (CP). Supplemented workforce of this welding and corrosion control focused group as needed during my contract.
Projects:
Dania Beach
oUtilized MathCad to perform the necessary calculations for the Pipe Internals and Condensers
oReviewed Isometric Drawings to coordinate anode placement and ensure proper anode identification in cathodic protection drawing set.
oPrepared Bill of Quantity (BOQ) for the Dania Beach CP System and added it to the drawing set.
oPrepared cathodic protection drawings for various systems below and above grade ICCP systems
· National Grid
oSpearheaded the design of the cathodic protection system for the National Grid Project. This project included cathodic protection for steel railroad casing facilitating the installation of non-metallic pipe type cable.
oPrepared the complete design deliverable including CP Calculation, Typical CP Details, CP system layout, and BOQ documents for the Project.
oPerformed project under general supervision.
· Plant Crist
oCoordinated with team members to develop various design documents for the project, including VCI (Vapor-Phase Corrosion Inhibitor) design for sand filled ring wall tanks and cathodic protection for underground piping.
· CPS
oPart of a field team tasked with obtaining CP field data during site visits to the Sommers, Spruce, Braunig, Lee West, and Rio Nogales Power Plants located in San Antonio, TX.
oUtilized digital multi-meter, reference electrodes, and various CP survey equipment throughout the project to assess the current condition and function of the CP system under the supervision of a NACE Certified CP tech.
Education:
Bachelor of Science, Physics
Minor in Mathematics
Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta GA
Relevant Coursework:
Electronics Lab
Designed and assembled rudimentary circuits such as full and half wave rectifiers, logic circuits, operational amplifiers, and transformers.
Advanced Measurements Lab
Conducted/automated experiments and interpreted data with minimal supervision during mock research projects involving the affects of Heating Rate as well as differing particle size on five select properties of Lithium Disilicate Glass.
Computational Physics
Utilized MathCad to perform mathematical modeling and finite element analysis to obtain approximate solutions of differential equations with open-form solutions.
Electromagnetism
Studied Electromagnetic Field Theory, calculated the charge distribution on the surface of various shapes and structures, and utilized Maxwell's equations.
Fundamentals of Nuclear Engineering
Learned about the fundamentals of Nuclear Power Plants and the differences between Pressurized Water Reactors and Boiling Water Reactors.
Thermal Physics
Learned about the laws of Thermodynamics including Entropy. Explored the statistical nature of heat transfer to build equations modeling various thermodynamic cycles and processes, including the Carnot Cycle.
