Title: Evaluation of anti-bacterial property of Haemolymph of Marine Gastropod Rapana rapiformis.

Location: Kalapett, U T Puducherry – India.

The project involved the pharmacological activities of certain species of Mollusca and analyzed its biomedical use.

Role and Responsibilities:

•Field study and field work conducted before sample collection.

•Sample i.e., Rapana rapiformis was collected from the coastal boulders

•Laboratory techniques used to collect haemolymph from sample.

•Centrifugal techniques and antibacterial assays prepared.

•Disk Diffusion method and Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate-Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis performed.

•Literature review conducted. Soft copy and hard copy of project prepared.

•PowerPoint presentation done before subject experts.

Key Achievements:

•Found haemolymph of Rapana rapiformis can be used against diseases such as Vibrio cholera, Psuedomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli.

•Project considered for further studies.

Title: Vegetable crops and Pesticide usage

Location: Wayanad, Kerala – India

The project studied the overuse of chemical pesticides in the agricultural region of Wayanad in Kerala and provided recommendations on improving the current system in place.

Role and Responsibilities:

•Study area selection and field visit.

•Crops cultivated in the study area and method of cultivation studied.

•Questionnaire prepared with relevant information.

•Data collected by survey and interview method.

•Continuous interaction with farmers. Results analyzed and discussed in groups

•Study conducted and prepared Pie Charts

•Presented the findings and recommendations to a panel of experts

Key Achievements:

•Diseases caused by regular chemical pesticides identified.

•Awareness about harsh health effects of chemical pesticides was given to inorganic farmers and experiences were shared by organic farmers on using organic pesticide.

•Motivated inorganic farmers to use organic pesticides and get rid of serious health diseases like skin cancer.

•Team management ability acquired and successfully completed a teamwork.
