Manufacturing Engineer (40+ hrs per week) 04/2020 to 07/2020 Northrop Grumman Space Systems Goleta, CA
In charge of building Ground Support Equipment (GSE), a deliverable Off-loader with a team of six technicians for the customer, for testing of the Seraphim Solar Panel program. Produce weekly milestones until the end of the program for the technicians to follow, to meet the Off-loader program deadline, and was able to meet the deadline a week earlier. Stayed within budget of the Off-loader program saving the company $25,000. Answered technician questions and interpret drawings, and under supervision, technicians assembled the Off- loader without any quality issues or having to re-work any of the assemblies. Made sure that the technicians follow the drawing, all parts are assembled within the allowed tolerance, torqued to the correct value and striped.
Conducted proof-load testing and laser tracking to make sure that the Off-loader is meeting customer requirements.
Conducted daily SQDEC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Employee, Cost) meetings to make sure all technicians adhere company policies, protocols, and the program is being executed as planned and within the budget. Briefed the Program Manager and the Value Stream Lead regarding the progress of the program few times a week, and participated in quality, safety, and production meetings weekly. Manufacturing Specialist (50+ hrs per week) 03/2018 to 07/2019 Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Hawthorne, CA Interpreted technical drawings and documents with regards to manufacturing, database systems, and fabrication processes, to create accurate manufacturing planning. Read, interpret and work from drawings as well as from controlled documentation and processes for avionics. Knowledge of cable harnessing, wiring diagrams, layout drawings, mechanical drawings, GD&T, Schematics, engineering drawings, and parts list.
Accurately and closely followed assembly procedures and work instructions. Evaluated the product life cycle of, Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessels (COPVs) and Domes, in order to make sure they are within regulation and quality standards, and re-usable for each flight. Created, revised, and maintained planning documents to produce ground support equipment and assemblies which conform to design specifications.
Validated and ensured planning documents are maintained throughout the manufacturing cycle. Released projects for manufacturing, and verify all critical information is provided to complete the projects. Coordinated with manufacturing team, internally and externally, for changes on manufacturing sequences, and updated planning accordingly.
Processed the necessary documentation to complete job assignments and resolve discrepancies, in order to expedite the flow of materials and fabrication.
Worked closely with development and design engineers, internal machine shop, and external vendors, to make parts that are designed for manufacturability. Worked closely with responsible engineers to refine and simplify designs for manufacturing. Liaison between production, quality, and design engineering for complex problem solving and solutions. Aerospace Engineer (40+ hrs per week) 09/2017 to 12/2017 Aero Products Company Los Angeles, CA
Partnered successfully with clients such as, the US Government, and military, to produce quality products such as Acoustical, Survivor Case Assemblies, Aircraft Seats and Cushions, Seat Cushions, Deployment Bags, Parachute Risers, Pad Assemblies and Backrests, and Protective Covers for the Apache Helicopter. Used AutoCad to design new parts and to improve existing parts. Created the folder with the drawings, part number file, and specifications and sent to Quality for approval and then to production.
As an AS9100 certified company, strengthened company's business by adhering to implementation of AS9100 quality standards while making sure all materials used conform to the contract requirements. Worked directly with the sales in figuring out the cost for new government contract bids. Worked closely with Quality department in making sure that the product is within specifications. Manufacturing & Design Engineer (40+ hrs per week) 03/2017 to 09/2017 PB Fasteners Gardena, CA
Responsible for assisting in managing the qualification, production, and on time delivery of bolts, nuts, and fuse pins, used as flight critical components for Aerospace structures. Using technical knowledge and Microsoft Excel systems, provided cost of manufacturing Aerospace standard bolts, nuts, and fuse pins, for cost proposals.
Successfully conducted a cost analysis project to figure out the most economical way to create washer pads on bolts and fuse pins. Saved the company over $100,000 per year in labor, material, and tooling costs. Attended Material Review Committee meetings daily, to determine root cause, for issues that arise in manufacturing, while implementing root cause corrective actions. Created assembly and layout drawings for fuse pins and specials using SolidWorks & AutoCad. Assisted with a handful of corrective action reports: writing reports and setting up preventative action implementation, which in turn, helped the company in reducing the manufacturing cost. Worked as a liaison between the customers and the floor production team and frequently attended to visiting customers.
Supported production and management to meet company quality standards in compliance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 while performing root cause analysis.
Thermal Engineer (15+ hrs per week) 01/2016 to 12/2016 California State University - Senior Design Project Long Beach, CA The objective of this project is to design a CubeSat constellation that collects surface imagery of Mars in visible light. The scope of this project is limited to the constellation and CubeSat design. For Thermal Control, considered and calculated the space temperatures on Martian atmosphere, and worked with other fellow project engineers to determine the working temperature ranges for the other subsystems. For the back plate of the Cubesat, Used a highly emissive, corrosion prevent boron nitride nano mesh (BNNM) to be painted.
Through through research, successfully determined which radiator would be the best for the CubeSat, during eclipse, and while exposed to direct sun light.
Calculated the heating requirements for the CubeSat during eclipse, so the sensitive internal components will function properly throughout the life of the mission. For Command and Data Handling, calculated the daily storage need, and then through research, determined a suitable storage drive, and an On-Board Computer which will last during the entire life of the mission. Assisted and work with fellow engineers using, STK (Systems Tool Kit) to create and test the constellation design. Using constellation analysis in STK allowed for determining the correct combination of altitude and inclination to have a sun synchronous constellation. The parameters taken into account to determine the inclination was the oblateness of Mars and the orbital perturbation of Mars’ orbit around the Sun.
