Mud Engineer

M-I Algeria Services LLC (Formerly a subsidiary of M-I SWACO) 22-Mar-2008 to 01-Jun-2020 Mud Engineer first year promoted to Senior Drilling Fluids Engineer (Mud Engineer). Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Direct and supervise the drilling fluid preparation. Test all mud parameters periodically in different conditions of temperature and pressure such as Viscosity, Mud Weight, pH, Yield Point, Electrical Stability, API Water Loss, HTHP Water Loss, Sand Content, Solid Content Analysis and Filter Cake. Chemical properties by testing and measuring the amount of Chloride, Ca++, Mg++, Total Hardness, Pf, Mf, Pm (alkalinity) and Lime content, MBT test, KCl … etc. and reports properties in DMR utilizing API 13 B report standards;

All mixing, maintenance and Performance of the drilling fluid, at the well site, as per the Drilling Fluids Programme and amendments in order to reduce or eliminate problems associated with drilling mud ;

Sell and influence clients' decision in buying the optimal company products and systems to maintain the necessary mud properties ;

Read specifications, such as well programs, to determine fluid requirements or to plan and organize procedures ;

Estimates the mud materials and chemicals required for drilling each phase;

Order, maintain and return accurate stocks of drilling fluids products. Reconcile drilling fluids product usage with warehouse supplies. Develop contingency plans if needed to correct inventory shortages

Conferred with managerial or technical personnel, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities ;

Provide direction and technical guidance to liquid mud facility personnel (testing, supervision, inspection of vessels, etc.

Make recommendations concerning solids control processes to ensure the equipment is optimized for economic solids removal ;

Maintain environmental discharge and consumption records as required by legislation or client ;

Daily Meetings / Calls - Call Operations Manager / Coordinator. Attend Operators morning meeting as required;

Attend Operators / Contractors safety meetings / per tour safety meetings;

Comply with all of the operators and Rig contractors HSE plans, and carry out their specific HSE Drilling Fluid responsibilities;

Conducts all business activities in accordance with any company HSE policies ;

Lead, guide and influence rig personnel to meet company objectives;

Advise all rig personnel on the safe handling of company's products and supply information on toxicity of drilling fluid products, mixing methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, or company policies & lead safety meetings;

Responsible for daily use of lab equipments operation and calibrations: Fann35 viscometer, API

& HTHP filter press, marsh funnel for viscosity and mud balance, Hamilton mixers, electrical stability meters, retorts, ph meters …etc;

Supervising the recording of slurry density and monitoring the displacement volumes and Establishing the loss rates (if any) and report volume of cement returns in cementing sheet after each cement job (CSG, Liner, cement plugs or any CMT jobs ...);

Coordinated with the driller and the mud logger for any transfer or dumping of mud from circulating system while drilling, tripping, run casing and cementing;

Collaborate with different interlocutors and responsible on drilling as customer and the others servicing companies (superintendent, company man, HSE man, site geologist...) and shared the progress of work on rig with the office responsible;

Assisting on and solving well bore problems like well activity, partial to total loss, wellbore instability, hole cleaning and ECD management,stuck up, caving, high torque, drag, bit/stab balling, fishing, carbonates/bicarbonates, anhydrite, fractured formations, reactive, fracture, pressured, sloughing, swelling & running shales, HPHT wells, high density muds and brines, cuttings disposal, gas cuts in a shallow formation, salt dome, Overpressure formations (kicks occurs for gas and/or oil), back flow & mud contaminations; and the ability to proactively suggest and implement solutions ;

Worked on various system formulations : WBM ( PHB spud mud, KCl-Polymer-Glycol, High Performance WBM, ULTRADRILL, KCl-PHPA-Glycol), OBM, Completion fluids using NaCl and CaCl2 brines in complex wet and dry geological areas encounter many layers of rocks having different properties situated in south (HMD, Hassi R'mel, Hassi Berkin, In salah, Adrar, IN aminas ...) and north of Algeria on well depths +18,000ft and MW +19ppg;

Generate and maintain accurate and timely drilling fluid reports and records using Company applications and software, e.g. Mud Reports, final well summary, daily drilling fluid report, Materials Concentration Forms, Drilling Fluids Recaps;

Ensure well is ready for billing at rig release, e.g. reconciling inventory, ensuring tickets completed, signed and submitted;

Supervising nightshift fluids engineer;

Ensuring adequate training of trainee Drilling Fluids Specialists in the area of expertise, and

Performed other related duties and projects as required. Languages
