I have 12 years’ experience as a Probation Officer. In the course of my career I have obtained a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Criminology.

1989 – 2001 Dept. Correctional Services

Corrections Officer and Probation Officer

•Maintained security of the institution and supervised personal hygiene of prisoners and all institutional activities

•Performed inspection of prisoner’s cells and individual cells

•Perform periodic patrols of the entire correctional facility

In 1990 I was assigned as community reintegration officer. My duties include the following:

•Pre-release interviews with offenders;

•Employment and residence: managed approved accommodation for offenders on parole

•Liaison with employers to check the offender’s progress as a working citizen

•Arrange interviews : employer with offender to establish job training for offenders that are to be released from parole

1992 I was transferred to the Community Corrections Office in Pretoria where I performed the following duties:

•Monitored offenders behaviour and activities to improve their lives and start to contribute to society

•Managed probation cases of different offenders

•Met with offenders on a regular basis to check their behaviour and progress

•Prepared reports to the courts and the head of the Community Corrections Office about offenders behaviour on the best way to manage them

•Prepared and submitted monthly statistical and performance reports on the status of individual case load

•Carefully document facts and testify in court with respect to the probationers activities, behaviour and quality of adjustment while under supervision

•Referred probationers to community agencies that offer specialised services that are required for a particular individual’s needs

•Maintained accurate and up-to-date case records in a neat and legible prescribed manner

Achievements at Dept. Correctional Services

-Award for outstanding service

-Awarded the rank of Warrant Officer

-Traced more than 160 absconded probationers per year

In addition to my daily duties, I was also the head of admissions and releases at the Community Corrections Office.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS

It is important to spend as much as possible time with my family. I believe a healthy work-life balance produce a healthy working mood.

My other interests are reading, research - crime related fields, and solving puzzles.
