Professional Experience

2014 – Present Discover Financial Services

Principal Data Modeler leading the Enterprise Logical Data Modeling Team in agile driven deliverables. This is the fourth ELDM effort by Discover. We are building from scratch utilizing all resources possible; FIBO, Teradata fLDM, publications, etc. Socializing the ELDM, modeling, teaching, mapping, and refining standards and processes are my primary deliverables.

Authored modeling standards for Dimensional Marts per the Kimball Methodology and socializing the use of the ELDM for the first Dimensional Mart at Discover, required to be enterprise conformed across 6 lines of business.

Created the Enterprise Metamodel for the Business Assets, Data Assets, Technical Assets, and Data Governance Assets as per Architecture defined by Collibra and EW Solutions – David Marco.

2012 – 2014 Cancer Treatment Centers of America

A group of 5 hospitals specializing in cancer treatment and holistic care

Served as the data architect in the enterprise architecture services team. I am was sole data modeler in the company. Focused on BI initiatives which require either relational or dimensional design and concurrently began the building of the Enterprise Logical Data Model. Composed a POC for a re-architected EDW with mapping to the ELDM for MDM, Reference Data Management, Data Lineage, and HIPAA compliance.

Enhanced the design of the Patient Relationship Management (PRM) system within MS CRM to enable proper identification of the single Patient through treatments among the five hospitals. Completed the Chief Nursing Officer’s Dashboard which feeds from 8 applications into a Kimball-compliant fully conformed Data Mart. Source systems included Electronic Health Records (EHR), Scheduling, Surgery, Patient Registration, Marketing, Adverse Event Monitoring, Agency Staff Hours and Expenditures.

Feb 2011 – Feb 2012 TATA Consulting Services deployed to GE Aviation, Engine Division

Served as Logical Data Modeler using the Teradata’s Enterprise Model for Manufacturing. Security Clearance was required for projects such as Fuel and Carbon analytics, Aerodrome and Waypoint systems Ran training sessions to logical and physical modeling staff on effective use of Erwin and modeling best practices. Established the standards for bi-temporal deliveries Transaction Time and Valid Time domains. Since this was a Teradata shop, I was not required to deliver MOLAP designs, however, this knowledge enabled me to communicate effectively with ETL staff with only cube based deployment experience.

2001 – 2012 Health Care Service Corporation (Blue Cross Blue Shield of IL, NM, OK, TX)

Hired as Lead EDW Analyst and promoted to Data Architect. Modeled the ELDM within the Data Governance workshop, Integrated Dimensional Data Mart for Claim and Membership Reporting, Application Portfolio Management Data Mart (CMDB), HMO Capitation Application, Financial Suspense System Application, Administrative Services Only Cost Billing Conceptual Model, Unclaimed Cash Application, HIPAA Information Disclosure Tracking, and ANSI 5010 835.

Coauthor of Data Modeling and Metadata Standards for the ELDM and Conformed Dimensional Marts. I was offered the position to accept or reject MOLAP designs by ETL Integration director but declined.

1991 – 2000 International Truck and Engine Corporation (Navistar International Headquarters)

Hired as Principal Analyst for critical Dealer Support Systems: Truck Order, Model Descriptions, and Feature Compatibilities. Promoted to Project Leader bringing the complex Special Pricing Authorization System into a DB2 structure. Project scopes affected mission critical systems from truck orders, invoicing, to final delivery.

I was actively recruited by internal EDW Group to serve as Integration Technical Architect / EDW Project Leader. Provided customer requests from simple Parts Lists to complex Truck Order Details.

1.Technical Architects provided expertise in Data Analysis, Physical Data Modeling, Information Resource Management / Metadata Management, and Quality Assurance for all OLTP projects.

This allowed a select few the ‘Enterprise Perspective’ in real-time, and the ability to affect cohesion, promote communication, and eliminate redundancy across departmental boundaries.

2.EDW Project Leader responsibilities entailed Project Management, Requirements Gathering, Physical Modeling of ODSs of various types, Data Administration, ETL specifications, and Quality Assurance.

Served as Customer/QA to internal EDW team in design and delivery of new web-based Metadata Repository.

1986 – 1991 Navistar International Credit Corporation

Hired as Analyst in the Retail Notes Department. Was responsible for complete rewrite of mission critical nightly processing of IMS master files: Retail Notes and Retail Customers.

Provided Quality Assurance for all IMS related changes. My approval was mandated for all IMS implementation to ensure accurate and efficient traversal for OLTP performance. Defined and documented formal Testing Procedures and Delivery Requirements for Project Development. Assigned to be the first Data Administrator/Metadata Specialist responsible for the metadata on Notes and Customer Master Files for the pilot deployment of DB2.

Ongoing developer of several Dealer Contest Reporting Systems per year. FOCUS was used to achieve rapid and accurate integration of disparate data from systems and platforms with intense development windows

1982 – 1986 Motorola (Automotive and Electronics Division)

Hired as programmer to enhance and support existing Manufacturing Systems.

Promoted to Senior Programmer and assigned to the AMAPS (American Manufacturing and Production Support system) implementation team. This product allowed full integration of functions such as Materials Requirements Planning, Shop Floor Control, etc.

1979 – 1982 McDonald’s Corporation

Began as a Summer Intern in the Financial Systems Group. Developed a small and high profiled IMS DB/DC on-line system which disbursed refunds to stores for promotional items such as Star Trek meals, McDonaldland Glasses, etc. Became an employee upon graduation to continue development of Accounts Receivable and Human Resource systems.
