• Administration and titration of inotropic, vasoactive, sedation, analgesic, and paralytic medications.

• Responsible for charge nurse duties including managing the unit, the transfers of patients out of ICU, coordinating admissions from the cardiac operating room, and overseeing the nursing and ancillary staff and scheduling.
• Assist with bedside procedures such as emergency intubation, sternotomy, ECMO cannulation, chest tube insertion, IABP insertion, central line placement, arterial line placement, and pulmonary artery catheter insertion.
• Communicate acute changes in patient status promptly to the respective members of the interdisciplinary team including doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and colleagues and intervene suitably.
• Up to date on all required training to continue to provide care for patients requiring 24/7 hemodynamic monitoring, external devices to support the heart, pacemaker management, Swan Ganz and other arterial and venous catheter care, chest tubes and drainage management, airway protection, IV medication titration, and initiation of the ACLS/BLS protocols.
