PG PROJECT
PHASE TWO PROJECT- Doing project on “A STUDY ON SURFACE PROPERTIES OF HARDFACING ALLOYS STELLITE 6 ” at pinnacle engineering Ltd. Coimbatore.
PHASE ONE PROJECT
CHARACTERISATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF WEAR RESISTANT BEHAVIOUR OF AISI 1040 STEEL BY HARDFACING- The hardfacing was done on AISI 4340 steel plate of thickness 25 mm with Cr-Ni based hardfacing electrode (satellite 6 electrode) by using GTAW process. For EN24 steel, it is necessary to do preheating and post weld heat treatment for welding to reduce cracking tendency. Hence hardfacing was done after preheating the EN24 steel to a temperature of 200oC. After hardfacing instead of using post weld heat treatment, post heating (250oC) was done on hardfaced EN24 steel to avoid undesired microstructure on the HAZ and deposited layer. The characterisation was done on both EN24 steel and hardfaced surface using XRD and the hardness survey was done using vicker’s microhardness tester. The enhancement of wear resistant was evaluated by comparing wear resistant behaviour of the EN24 steel and hardfaced EN24 steel using pin on disc wear testing machine.
UG PROJECT
EFFECT OF CHEMICAL TREATMENT ON TENSILE STRENGTH AND SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF 3D-PRINTED PLA USING THE FDM PROCESS
Fused deposition modeling (FDM) is one of the most commenly used additive manufacturing processes because of its environment-friendly and cost effectiveness. However, Chemical treatment is an easy fast and economical technique. In the present investigation, the effect of chemical treatment on surface roughness and tensile strength of Polylatic acid(PLA) the parts made using the FDM process is investigated using chemical dichloroethane. The post chemical treatment dramatically improves the surface finish and dimensional accuracy of PLA specimens. But chemical treatment results in the reduction of tensile strength.
