Clinical Experience
Pittman Physical Therapy (March 2020 – May 2020)
My clinical instructor allowed me to work with her for the first week, and by the end of the week I was taking on around 50% of her caseload. By the end of the second week here, I had taken on 100% of her caseload. It was a great experience in which I had the opportunity to use the skills and knowledge that I acquired in school. The patients that I saw while working at Pittman had shoulder injuries, knee injuries or low back injuries for the most part. Occasionally we would get patients that had ankle, elbow or wrist injuries. This helped me to make the connections between didactic knowledge and clinical practice.
Methodist University Hospital (November 2019 – December 2019)
With my time in the hospital, I was able to work with a variety of patients and really was given the opportunity to learn quickly on how to deal with people in this setting. My experience in the hospital was great, and it was more of a “sink or swim” type of setting. I was able to get more variety of the types of cases here. They ranged anywhere from general deconditioning to total hip and total knee cases. The therapy group in this setting was larger, and I had opportunities to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
