Promoted to a new position in the Department of Pathology to provide direct administrative support to the supervisor of the Prenatal Screening and Special Testing Laboratory. Scope of multifaceted responsibilities includes performing data entry to transfer laboratory results from physicians’ requisition forms to the Alpha computer system for subsequent access and inclusion in medical reporting.

● Respond to inquiries from physicians’ offices and hospitals to provide clarification of test results used to identify chromosomal abnormalities associated with Down syndrome, spina bifida, and Edwards syndrome.

● Perform comprehensive screening of laboratory results and initiate communications with physicians’ offices via fax, regular mail, or electronic posting to report all positive findings and to convey recommendations for additional diagnostic testing to confirm results.

● Communicate with the hospital’s Prenatal Diagnosis Center to supply and clarify the results of amniocentesis and level II ultrasound diagnostic tests.

● Research and compile essential or missing data/information by accessing databases on the Cerner technology platform.

● Hold ancillary responsibility for setting up laboratory tests in accordance with established procedures, including preparing specimens and ensuring the proper management of all corresponding/identifying paperwork.

● Support grant-funded research associated with a large-scale national intervention trial by entering data related to the results of DNA analyses.

● Manage the hardcopy filing system used to store/archive all test results and maintain the refrigerated storage system that holds frozen specimens.

● Traveled to London and The Netherlands with the laboratory director to attend scientific presentations and expand knowledge base.
