My name is Monique de Villiers. I’m 28 years old. I have completed my 3 years of studies as a beauty therapist at the International Academy of Health and Skin care in 2013. Currently I am working as a Skin Care Therapist. I have complete many contracts working over seas on cruise ships and yachts as a therapist.

I am a very fun, warm, loving caring person. I enjoyed traveling the world, seeing new places and meeting new people. My main aim in the beauty industry is to help people where ever I can and make them feel good about themselves. To help them see their true beauty from within. Being in the beauty industry is what I have always wanted to do since I was a little girl. Being a beauty therapist/lecturer/mentor is my passion in life. I have always enjoyed all of the beauty treatments but working with the skin is what i enjoy most.

I’m a very organized person. I prefer to work according to a schedule and/or routine as I prefer to get things done timeously. I like working in a team and/or group as it is very important to rely on others for help now and then, to support one another and make a difference in our clients’ lives.

Over the years i have been seen as an advisor. Someone that loves sharing my passion in teaching others the ways of the beauty industry. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience of everything and anything relating to the beauty industry.

I have only recently (since Jan this year) returned home and is ready to settle down here at home in Cape Town. I am currently on the lookout for a lecturing position as a Skin Care and Beauty Lecturer.

During my 2 years of study I worked at a salon, Zanzi’s as a beauty therapist where I did a variety of treatments ranging from massages to facials to manicure’s and pedicure’s, waxing etc. I really enjoyed working for them as they made me feel welcome and especially the clients were very excepting of me and I had a good working relationship with them.

During my 3rd year of studies I worked at the International Day Spa which is located on the premises of my college. I enjoyed this working experience very much as I had a variety of clients coming to see me and also clients who regularly came back to me for treatments. During my 3rd year I was trained in more advanced variety of treatments including massage, VPL, Microdermabrasion, facials, manicure’s, pedicure’s, Pro-polish, spray tan, Vichy shower, scrubs and warps etc.

I must say I have had a wide variety of clients, meeting people and getting to know them very well. I enjoyed working with people a lot.

After I finished my 3rd year of studies I applied to work for Steiner on the cruise ships as a Spa/ Beauty therapist. I have completed three 9 month contracts worked for Steiner on Carnival cruise line. During this period did the following treatment: La Therapy Facials, Elemis Facials and Microdermabrasion Facials, Swedish Massage, Deep tissue Massage and Pregnancy Massage. I also did reception work which included making bookings, answering calls, sales and directing guest to waiting area. During my employment on the cruise liners I have learned a lot with regards to how the spa industry works and how to be the best therapist, not just service wise but also retail wise. I truly enjoyed working abroad. I learned how important teamwork is.

Shorlty after starting my second contract I have also been promoted to Assistant Spa Manager. My responsibilities included the following: As Assistant Spa Manager I managed all reporting functions required by SmarT (which is the charging system we had on board), including starting and ending voyages as well as directed and controled all receiving, storing, distribution, and inventories of all spa, salon and fitness stock. I had to assist the Manager with all aspects of spa operations, including training and managing staff, and able to take over the spa managers responsibilities if called to, including but not limited to completing voids and discrepancies at the direction of the Spa manager. I had to ensure that all procedures and standards set by the company were adhered to. I assisted the Spa Manager in keeping email communications. I had to record all professional usage of stock in the spa and provided the Spa Manager with assistance in preparation and submission of daily flash reports. I also provided Spa Staff with assistance in completing all personal and spa administrative reporting. I did perform all duties had been necessary by the Spa Manager.

After I finished my 3rd contract working for Steiner on the cruise ships as a Spa/ Beauty therapist, I applied to work for Canyon Ranch. I have completed 2 contracts for Canyon Ranch on Celebrity and Regent cruise line working as a Skin Care Therapist. During this period did the following treatment: Environ Facials, Luzern Facials and Swedish massage, Deep tissue Massage and Pregnancy Massage. I also did reception work which included making bookings, answering calls, sales and directing guest to waiting area. I have also worked alongside Medi Spa Dr. assisting their guest in treating their skin before and after treatment with them such as Botox injections, fillers etc

After working on the cruise lines for many years i decided to make a change and started working on yachts as a stewardess/beauty therapist. For the last few months i worked on a yacht called Majestic where i was doing everything from housekeeping to breakfast service and dinner service for the owners and guest to doing laundry and also beauty treatments in between. Ranging from different types of massages to manicures and Pedicures.

Recently i just finished working on a yacht called North Star. I worked as a stewardess/beauty therapist and did everything from housekeeping to dinner service for the owners and guest to doing laundry and also beauty treatments. Ranging from different types of massages to manicures, pedicure and also facials.

I am an extremely passionate individual. I enjoyed contributing to my clients when doing treatments and going the extra mile for each client. I have received positive feedback with my massage and facial treatments and ability to make my clients feel relaxed and calm.
