Academic Projects

Topic: Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer Enhancement in Compact Heat Exchangers using Vortex Generators

June 2014- May 2015

Abstract: The potential of rectangular winglet vortex generators arrays used to enhance air side heat transfer performance of a finned tube heat exchanger is numerically studied. The position of the rectangular winglet vortex generators on circular tube heat exchangers were particularly placed such that it is a compromise between the maximum heat transfer augmentation and the minimum pressure drop. The fundamental mechanism between the local flow structures such as separation delay, reduced form drag is studied in detail by varying the angle of attack and positioning of vortex generators (VGs). The analysis is also done on elliptical tube heat exchangers, with and without vortex generators; in order to study the effect of tube shape on the heat transfer augmentation as well as the effect of VG. Topic: Study of Thermoelectric Module and Its Viability in Air-Conditioning System with Solar Power Integration

January 2013 - May 2013

Abstract: The study analyses the applicability of thermoelectric coolers (TEC) with solar input as an alternative to the current practices. The main advantage is that the absence of compressor allows it to work even in low current inputs. Also the system is less in complexity, giving it an upper hand over the absorption plants. The area to be cooled was fabricated, into which the TEC was incorporated. The coefficient of performance (COP) was analyzed. The size difference in the TEC and box and the solar panel are corrected in to live size model. The calculations are affirmative that such a system can be employed in house hold applications provided the price of TEC must come down and also it must be available in large size. The state government can implement this system as a green building practice. The importance of this project is remarkable in a world where global demand for energy is growing at alarming rates.
