Pietermaritzburg
APPLICATION FOR POSITION – PHARMACIST PIETERMARITZBURG (TO-3346B)
I started my career at a privately owned pharmacy named Oliën Pharmacy in Potchefstroom as a pharmacist assistant after I matriculated and studied towards my B.Pharm degree.
I finished my B.Pharm degree and decided to continue with my studies. I successfully completed a Masters Degree in 2006. As a post graduate I worked as a Practical Assistant for the university, I was closely involved in the training of undergraduate pharmacist students.
In 2006, my community service as a pharmacist started in the Free State Province. There I was in charge of 9 primary health-care facilities, all pharmacy operations needed to be supervised and I had to ensure operations were running effectively. The facilities were visited and inspected by myself on a weekly basis. I completed my community service in the Limpopo province where I had the privilege of being part of setting up a new ARV clinic.
We relocated to KZN after completing my community service, I was employed by the Department of Health in Kwazulu-Natal. I worked at various hospitals as a pharmacist up until 2011. At Eshowe hospital I helped manage a very big ARV clinic, we also had an extensive ARV paediatric program. Empangeni I worked closely with doctors managing ARV treatment in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. I started, still under Department of Health KZN, working at Greys Hospital where I had contact with more specialized cases as it was a tertiary institution. In the manufacturing section we prepared medication for chemotherapy in a laminar flow cabinet
Thereafter I joined the private sector at Midlands Medical Centre. I was second in charge and acted as pharmacy manager when the manager stepped out.
I joined Kheth’Impilo, an NGO in 2017. I was employed as the National Pharmaceutical Services Coordinator for the learnership programme. The learnership was coordinated by me in 3 provinces. I did some facilitation and assessment for the KZN learner basic and post basic pharmacist assistants, having SBuys as our provider. Our funding was withdrawn and the Pietermaritzburg branch closed down in 2018. I joined Eden Gardens Private Hospital.
