Looking out for sparks after a welding or burner finishes cutting or welding metal. The primary job was to give the alarm so the fire fighters can be brought into play
Maintaining communication with the personnel in the confined space, or hole in case of an emergency.
Carrying out situational awareness and raising the alarm about the emergency. For example, if weather conditions deteriorate and pose a hazard, the worker on hole watch can advise personnel in the hole and assist them in leaving the confined space.

Understanding the hazards associated with confined space entry, able to communicate effectively, recognize aberrant behaviors in the personnel in the confined space that may result from the hazards associated with the space and act appropriately in an emergency.
