1961-1962 Leon County Juvenile Court under Judge Jefferson

Duties included answering all incoming calls making certain the messages were given to the Juvenile Specialist without delays. The messages were written clearly to avoid misinterpretations that might have been important to the case. Phone numbers and names of callers had to be legible as well as the message had to be clear avoiding any misrepresentations

Reason for leaving pregnancy

1963-65 Personal Secretary to Donald L Tucker, Attorney.

Duties included typing court cases, calling clients for information, and appointments. Checking court records of clients and other duties common to the position of legal secretary.

1965- 68 Secretary of State Office under Tom Adams

Bilingual Secretary to Larry Benson. Mr. Benson headed the development of a Sister City Program between Colombia, South America and Florida.

Travelled to Colombia, SA as an interpreter. The name of the program was the Florida-Colombia Alliance.

The main purpose of the program was to establish a sister-city relationship among the various civic organizations in Colombia and Florida. The Sister City program was established to exchange ideas about trade, commerce between Florida Cities and designated cities in Colombia.

1969 to 1972 Department of Agriculture under Dr. Parajón .

Position: bilingual Secretary.

During my employment with the Department of Agriculture, I had the privilege to organize the conference events between the Fl Cattlemen Association and cattlemen groups from Central and South America. A need for a translator was apparent. To prepare for this event, I spent several hours familiarizing myself with cattle names, diets, and production.

Assigned to be Doyle Conner’s Commissioner of Agriculture personal translator. Part of the translations dealt with conversations between Mr. Conner and members of the Latin America cattle associations. . The conference took place in Gainesville, Fl hosted by the Department of Agriculture and the Florida Cattlemen Association. Materials provided were translated and distributed for those in attendance.

1974 to 2009 was hired by the Dept of Insurance (later renamed Department of Financial Services) as a Secretary and worked my way up to the position of Bureau Chief.

Created a “Department Translation Group.” The group was responsible for the translations of Spanish correspondences, news bulletins, and booklets offered by the department to consumers dealing with insurance products. We also did the translations for the Department’s web page.

Was privileged to assist Commissioner Tom Gallagher when a translator was needed. Supervised Mr. Gallagher when he spent time talking to our consumers calling the Department’s toll-free line with questions and concerns about their insurance claim.

Bureau Chief:

Managed 13 established offices for the Department of Insurance. Visited each of the Service Offices, on a monthly routine to evaluate their performance and discuss new ways to serve our consumers. Reviewed the recommendations of newly hired individual. Recommended ways to reach the community and established Rules to avoid misunderstandings between the job assignments with FEMA and our office during hurricane season. Was invited to participate on radio talk shows geared to educating the public about what to do when a hurricane hits your area. The main population around South Florida does not speak English. Having Spanish speaking Specialists was an advantage; Our staff was able to provide names of companies and addresses where help was available to provide water and other materials to weather the storm.

Reason for retiring:

I was blessed with a triple by-pass. Time to take a rest! After 35 yrs with the Department that stole my heart and a total of 45 years serving the people of Florida.

Other Accomplishments:

First lady in Tallahassee to coach a men’s softball team.

Awarded the Certification of Certified Public Manager from Florida State University. (a two years course)

Licensed as an Insurance Agent (license presently inactive)

Awarded Certificates by the Governor of Florida and Insurance Commissioner for the help provided to the people of Florida during various hurricanes, including Andrews Worked together with FEMA staff as partners checking the various claims for damages caused by the Hurricanes.
