OBJECTIVE
To put my broad chemical engineering experience to work at a Gulf Coast chemical plant or refinery.
EDUCATION
1978-1979
1979-1983
Northwestern State University
B.S. Chemical Engineering, Ruston, LA, Louisiana Tech University
1983-1985
MBA, Baton Rouge, LA, Louisiana State University
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
8/19-3/20
Project Engineer with Talascend, LLC working at Phillips 66 Refinery Belle Chasse, LA
·Worked on $10 MM Hydrogen Pipeline project that was designed to supply hydrogen to multiple locations in the plant. The FCC Unit was the main source of hydrogen in the past. Helped with design and process safety issues.
·Secured funding and worked on Benzene Loading project at #1 Dock. This $5 MM project freed up dock space for gasoline loading ships.
·Helped with detailed engineering efforts on ACE Pipeline project which debottlenecked a crude pipeline source for cost advantaged crude oil.
·Assisted with NESHAPS project that brought the refinery into compliance with benzene related regulations.
6/02-3/19
Improvement Engineer/Operations Engineer, Dow Chemical, Hahnville, LA
·Added piping and control valves for new feed source to furnace. Spent $1 MM and saved $60 MM over a 10 year period.
·Managed $9 MM stormwater collection and pumping project. Developed innovative ways to segregate stormwater. Sized pumps, control valves and 4 MM gallon stormwater tank. Pumping capacity was over 20,000 gpm.
·Managed the hot tapping and on-stream cleaning of an ethylene fractionator. Avoided a $10 MM unit shutdown. Received technology center awards for this and other projects.
·Installed new technology flare tip in Ethylene Unit that vastly improved combustion of unit waste gases.
·Added Voith governor controls to improve reliability of furnace gas compressor. Also improved unit process safety by installing dual seals on light hydrocarbon pumps.
·Installed deaerator and improved severe service boiler feedwater control valves.
·Saved Dow $2-4 MM each year with R&D tax credits.
2/95-5/02
Operations Engineer, PPG industries, Lake Charles, LA
·Reduced site nitrogen used by 1/3 using a new, innovative method that I developed. This reduced fuel gas use dramatically and improved operation of three unit incinerators. Supervised operators.
·Monitored operation and solved technical problems in a vinyl chloride monomer unit.
·Responsible for operating site incinerators and waste treatment system.
·Did logistics work to manage shipment of our product to our customers.
3/88-5/95
8/86-2/88
Process Engineer, Vista Chemical (formerly Conoco Petroleum Chemicals Division), Lake Charles, LA
·Installed projects associated with a 2-year expansion and modernization project. Worked on unit start up and subsequent troubleshooting. Added a dispersed oil extraction unit to the Ethylene Unit. Prevented unit shutdown by troubleshooting quench system shortly after unit startup.
·Did process control work for 2 years. Built control loops and graphics for unit DCS.
·Worked on projects associated with a new $50 MM wastewater treatment system.
·Worked on construction, commissioning and startup of Stone & Webster furnace.
Process Engineer, Formosa Plastics, Baton Rouge, LA
·Learned details of vinyl chloride monomer unit.
·Responsible for efficient operation of part of unit.
·Started up wastewater stripper that removed chlorinated organics from wastewater.
·Installed a vent collection system to route a vent to the incinerator.
