• Lead Construction Manager for the Major Electrical Upgrade/Renovation Project, Floodwall Project, & SPS (Sterile Processing Suite) totaling approx $245M for the Manhattan VA Hospital Renovation work after Hurricane Sandy

Flood Perimeter Wall Project, Manhattan, NY: The project consists of a 1570ft long wall that surrounds the medical center. The floodwall is designed for a 100-year and 500-year flood at the height of 14ft elevation. The project includes construction of a floodwall, seepage cutoff wall, hydraulic floodgates, interior drainage improvements, four combined sanitary/storm sewer pumping stations, interior site paving, utility service reconstruction, installation of backflow prevention valves, & landscaping. The hydraulic floodgates allow vehicle & pedestrian access to the site, while allowing closure of openings in the event of a flooding event.

Project plans involved renovations to 79,000 square feet on three floors. The installation of associated MEP equipment required penetrations and notches in existing structural steel beams to accommodate increased ceiling heights. Other structural design and engineering tasks for the project included slab penetrations for the IDF closets and plumbing systems, as well as structural review of designs prepared by the architect for various architectural alterations.

This structural upgrade brought Plaza’s construction into compliance with the requirements of the New York City Building Code.

Coordinate with the Architect during the construction phase of the project 1211 Avenue of America, New York, NY: Beacon Capital Partners developed plans for the expansion of the building at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY. The scope of the expansion included the addition of new structure above the existing 10th floor roof for a new two-story tall double studios at the 12th floor. The studio floor will be a double slab construction with an isolated floating slab over the regular floor structure. New dunnage steel to support new emergency generators, pumps, and electrical switchgear room above the 10th floor roof. Modification of existing chiller dunnage to allow installation of new structural steel was required. New elevator tower from the existing 7th floor roof to the new 12th floor studio floor with elevator machine room above the 14th floor level. A new connecting bridge between the new elevator tower and the new studios at the 12th floor level. New framing was provided to create a new elevator shaft below the 7th floor reaching the C-4 cellar level inside the existing building including new column posts and footings. A new mezzanine level for the studio support at the 4th floor level. A new elevator and stair shaft between C-2 cellar level and 3rd floor inside the existing building. A review of the structural capacity of the existing building columns, transfer girders and transfer truss to support the new floors.

58th Floor Redevelopment, 200 Park Ave New York, NY: Tishman Speyer wished to redevelop the 58th floor of the building at 200 Park Ave, New York, NY. The scope of the project included a raised floor 24 inches above the existing floor construction. A raised ceiling and a raised roof construction at the north east perimeter of the building. A new glass curtain wall at the exterior of the building at the north east portion of the building. Removal of two existing building columns. Conversion of an exterior north terrace to office space. Renovations to an existing mechanical space to enhance the office space of the floor. A new shuttle elevator. Removal of existing steel beams to open the double height space. Creation of a new mechanical mezzanine for the support of air conditioning and mechanical equipment to be located at an elevated mezzanine level in the core of subject space.
