Name of the project: Numerical analysis and comparison of a composite automotive leaf spring suspension

Description:

. The project involves creation of multi leaf springs used in semi off road vehicles using Solidworks 2014 from the available data. This leaf is imported into Ansys where three different materials have been applied. The leaf is loaded with a force that is calculated from the gross vehicle weight of the vehicle model opted for this study. Spring Steel, Epoxy carbon, Epoxy glass have been included for the simulation. Remote displacement boundary conditions supplemented by separate coordinate system for both ends have been used in this study to capture actual spring motion. The load is applied at the bottom leaf vertically. The deflection, strain and stress have been assessed for each materials. A weight calculation has also been carried out.

Results obtained: Helical seems better in terms of area reduction and convective heat removal.

Load calculation for a leaf spring assembly, 3D modelling in Solidworks, Meshing of parts using tetrahedron elements, Applying contact parameters between different parts of the assembly, Applying essential boundary conditions by keeping and removing particular degrees of freedom, Results interpretation, Plotting, Verification of Results etc. ACADEMIC
