Gorman Construction, Inc. – Sitework & Utilities Contractor 3401 Florence Circle, Suite 100 – Powder Springs, GA. 30127 Director of Operations (From 6/2017 to Present)
I’m responsible for the growth of this family-owned business operation by overseeing all of their active projects from NTP to final completion, as well as projects we’re about to bid. I attended all of the pre-construction meetings with the GCs, since we’re the first subcontractor to be onsite, and responsible for the erosion control, site clearing, demolition, grading, plus the installation of storm, sewer & water lines.
AIM Steel International – Global Managers & Fabricators 2366 Sylvan Road – Atlanta, GA. 30344
Director of Operations (From 7/2016 to 6/2017)
After completing the Sun Trust Park baseball stadium for the Atlanta Braves below, AIM Steel International recruited me to be their Director of Operations because of my proven track records, and to oversee the day-to-day activities of their operations. I managed a staff of 8 estimators, 6 project managers, and 40 iron workers in our fabrication shop (Tecate, Mexico) so that all the projects we bid are profitable, and held everyone accountable if we didn’t meet our goals. Hirschfeld Industries – Steel Fabricator
1901 Gateway Drive, Suite 260 – Irving, TX. 75038
Site Manager for Sun Trust Park project (From 6/2015 to 6/2016) I was the site manager for the Atlanta Braves Stadium project (SunTrust Park) that was under construction here in Cobb County, GA. I’m responsible for the logistic of bringing all the steel from our 3 fabrication plants in Texas to the jobsite, so our sub-tier steel erectors can install them, and stay on this accelerated schedule requested by the owners. I handled all deliveries, RFIs, change orders, pay applications, attended weekly meetings, and coordinated with our vendors. I know how to use Tekla, and able to converse with the A/E and our detailers every time there’s an issue with a connection, or clash with other structural pieces. ThyssenKrupp/Polysius – Cement Equipment Supplier & Engineering Services 180 Interstate North Parkway – Atlanta, GA. 30339
Project Manager (From 4/2014 to 5/2015)
I was one of the 3 project managers that helped built this 300-million dollars cement plant in Maryneal, TX. (for Buzzi Unicem USA), and I’m responsible for reviewing all the engineering drawings, and check shop drawings before going into fabrication. I handled all RFIs, and answered technical questions in regards to structural steel connections. In addition to the work listed above, I also do purchasing, solicited & evaluated bids, and updated our project schedules. Dekalb Steel / Cowart Iron, Inc. – Steel Fabricator & Erector 3476 Lawrenceville Hwy. - Tucker, GA. 30084
Project Manager (From 1/2008 to 4/2014)
I supervised a variety of structural steel construction projects (mostly in the Metro Atlanta areas) such as: Dormitory (at Emory Freshman Hall); Commercial Building (Piedmont Driving Club); and Medical Office Building (at Georgia University in Athens). I oversee our in-house detailers that produced shop drawings for one of our three shops to fabricate, and generated field-use drawings for our erectors/ironworkers to be used in the field. I checked for moment connections and other design parameters to make sure that the project is being built correctly, and on time. I kept track of change orders, submitted monthly payment request, monitored critical paths, and discussed with the clients in weekly meetings to identify any project shortfalls. Project Manager (From 8/2000 to 3/2006)
St. Brides Correctional Center (Medium Security Prison). Chesapeake, Virginia. This is a multi- phased prison project to be constructed as a replacement facility that was worth over $100 million. Phase I included a Housing Unit for 364 inmates, 6 new buildings included the Entry, Admin, Program Support, DCE, Sally Port, Warehouse, and Perimeter Security Fence. Outside the secure perimeter are a new Water Treatment Plant, Water Storage Tank, Trash Compactor and Sludge Press. Phase II included the demolition of the old St. Brides Correctional Center, construction of two additional Housing Units, a Multi-Purpose Building and the expansion of the existing Wastewater Treatment Plant. As Project Manager, I was responsible for all subcontract work, preparing RFIs, reviewed submittals, prepared materials for all of our meetings, updated weekly construction schedule, and reviewed subcontractor’s monthly payment request for accuracy. Whiteman AFB (Design-Build). Missouri. I used this proprietary software (Varco Pruden – VP Buildings) to design a 11,500 sf. Munitions Assembly (structural steel metal building) with a 5 ton overhead crane; a 10,000 sf. Office Building (one story) with SSR roofing & Panel Rib for walls covering; and an opened bay Storage Canopy (3,800 sf.). This software then generated all of the cut sheets required for fabrication and an estimated cost for the structures (steel erection is not included). We were very competitive in our bidding and as a result, we won the contract ($11.4 million) to do the entire project in 700 calendar days. American Home Builders, Inc. - Multi-Family Developer 600 108th Ave. NE., Suite 600 - Bellevue, WA. 98004 Construction Project Manager (From 10/1997 to 8/2000) Woodmark Apartments (Multi-Family Development Project). My ability to manage people and costs, technical knowledge of building components, and use good business judgment were the keys to the success of this project.
FY-92 (Family Housing Project). Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. This $5.6 million dollars project was constructed for the Department of the Air Force at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. The project consisted of demolition of five 1950 vintage 8-plex units down to the existing foundation walls and reconstruction of five 6-plex military family housing units with finished basements. The 30 new units are composed of four different building types arranged in 6-plex townhouses. Bristol Bay Housing (Low-Income Family Housing Project). Ivanof Bay on the Alaska Peninsula. This $5.9 million dollars HUD-financed housing project consisted of 39 houses built for the Bristol Bay Housing Authority. The houses were fabricated into modules at a plant in Anacortes, Washington, and transported by barge to the villages of Ivanof Bay and Perryville on the Alaska Peninsula, and Ekwok, which is located seventy miles up the Nushagak River from Dillingham. This is the first time that we used an ocean-going barge to take the houses that we built up the river. Murray & Tobiason, Inc. - Civil Engineering Firm
