I have worked a multitude of jobs, most of which aren’t included on my resume as they don’t truly qualify as employment. These jobs have ranged from contracting, mulching, interior decorating, and real estate staging. The most qualifying position I have held was at Merchants Cash Partners. Now I know what you instantly are thinking. Merchant Cash Advances, what a piece of scum. There is some truth to this, however, I would like to elaborate on my reasoning. I joined MCP in June because my only other options were to work at a fast food joint. I choose a job in finance for some experience. At this job I made over two-hundred cold calls a day to small businesses on a UCC lead sheet. I sold a number of MCAs and made a nice check. However, the job isn’t a stable source of income or morality. I quickly became skilled at convincing people already in debt to take out more debt with awful terms. To top it off, our underwriters would tag on an ACH and origination fee amounting to ten percent of the principal. Going into my third month there I wasn’t feeling good about myself and now I am here. I don’t want to screw people over, I want to ensure their financial stability for years to come. I want a job that doesn’t incentivize scamming hard working people. I want to work for Imperial Moving and Storage.
To vouch for my abilities to excel, look to my admittance into Columbia University. I count it as my first of many major successes. To me, it was the fruit of many years of time consuming work with no assured goal in sight. As a high school freshman, I would grind through countless days and nights of work just for a semblance of a chance to go to a good school. Years later, the constant grind paid off when I opened that letter. All I needed to read was
“Congratulations” and instantly I couldn’t contain my excitement. Sadly however, waking up the next morning I noticed nothing had changed. I was still me. I still had school. And I still needed to strive for success.
Today marks the fourth month of living in the city solely on my own hard work. There is no silver spoon for me. To get my silver spoon I need to start digging, so let me take your dirt and turn it to silver.
