SELECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Enabled the staffing of the $8Bln renovation of LaGuardia Airport with Engineers to implement the design.

Getting to and from a massive airport under major construction was not desirable to most mid-level construction engineers. I convinced the PANY-NJ to allow me to recruit young engineering graduates from working class families. The promise I gave the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering students in order to entice them to join and deal with our logistics was simple: I would teach them the business and expose them to tasks at a younger level than usual. After 3 years they would feel (and be compensated) as though they had five years’ experience. The plan worked so well the Civil Engineering Department implemented it as well and the PANY-NJ is using it at Kennedy and Newark Airport.

Revamped the Purchasing Department of a Major Mechanical Contractor ($200MM sales, 160 employees) resulting in an annual cost savings of $3 million dollars. When hired as VP of Operations this company was building 15 high rises towers in NYC simultaneously which meant ordering huge amounts of pipe, valves and fittings daily. Instead of using state of the art software to aggregate the orders and put all bids in competition to 5 vendors the purchasing staff simply went to the guy they knew the best and who bought them lunch once a week. The new staff learned the state-of-the-art process. Before: the largest vendor did 90% of the business … After: none of the five vendors did more than 24% of the business. (and all vendors took turns buying the staff lunch-lol)

MORE SELECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Increased the New Jersey revenues for a large Pennsylvania Mechanical and Plumbing Shop. By 50% in just two years to $60 million as Operations Manager for that state. This was done in spite of the fact that their labor force did not want to travel to New Jersey. This forced my team and I to scour existing projects and local trade schools in order to source the welders, pipefitters, plumbers and sheet metal workers required to do the work.

Enhanced the reputation of WDF/Tutor Perini by delivering the $34 million Mechanical portion of the Madison Square Garden renovation on time to MSG and Turner Construction. This required having only 4-5 months per year to build during the Rangers and Knicks offseason. We had to use hundreds of Steamfitters, Tin Knockers and Pipe insulators working three shifts to accomplish this goal.
