Position: Segment Safety Manager reporting to Project Manager

Project: rehabilitation of existing wells and construction of additional new wells in northern part of Qatar (Kahramaa project), drilling and completion of deep recharge system at various FIFA World Cup (SC project), flood prevention schemes (FPS project) and Ashghal project (package 1 & 2), on-call basis drilling, installation of wells, water sampling analysis and reporting, and construction of additional 10 deep injection wells in various areas in Qatar.

Responsible for management of environmental health and safety across all the drilling sites with the assistance of safety officers. I also plan and supervises the day to day activities of operational safety services to ensure that personnel and contractors adhere to the corporate’s safety rules and regulations and safe work practices.

Ensuring that during all phases of operation attention is paid to safe systems of work by carrying out regular inspections in all operational areas and provides the necessary advice and assistance to reduce accidents and potential loses.

Prepare, implement, and modify as required, project risk assessment, wherein all project related hazards are identified, adequately controlled, and monitored to reduce risk to employees, contractors, and members of the public.

The project consists of soft and hard landscaping, children’s play area, two sunken grades with adjacent restaurants, underground four-level parking, underground tunnel link to Doha Convention Center and tower and 66KV substation. Performed Safety Supervisor role for the detailed design and supervision consultant.

Coordinating and monitoring all health, safety and environmental activities to ensure agreed safety and loss prevention standards are fully implemented and properly followed.

Provide guidance to contractor’s HSE personnel, provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational health, safety and environmental issues.

Monitoring the performance of safety personnel on site to improve their safety knowledge as well as their risk management skills such as prioritizing the identification and rectification of hazards based on sound risk management decision making.

The project is set within approximately 2.7 million m area with a built-up area of 1.3 million square meter located at Mesaimeer opposite Barwa Commercial Avenue. The project consists of 128 residential buildings, 17 commercial and amenities buildings, two utility compounds with 20 structures and plants, 28 electrical substations, 28.8 km of interior roads, 228 km of irrigation piping, 22 km of potable water network piping, 280 km of electrical power cables and 21 km of chilled water network piping.

I am responsible for the HSE protection and compliance of project personnel; this includes the management of engineering teams and sub-contractors engaged in major civil and fabrication works, steel erection, transportation and crane operations; in addition to the daily monitoring of work practices of company and subcontractors to ensure compliance to local laws and requirements. I also responsible for continually assessing and reviewing HSE management system to ensure its compliance with client requirements and company objectives, identification of key performance indicators, trends and appropriate corrective actions through periodic project reviews and providing opportunities for measuring and assessing performance.

Additional responsibilities include the delivery of a wide range of ES&H training for personnel, leading and participating in accident investigations, delivery of status and performance reports and actively engaged in the project initiatives in support of the Project Target Zero Accident Program and Philosophy, including the behavior-based safety and safety task analysis risk reduction talk programs.
